NORC at the University of Chicago is Hiring a Research Associate II - Health Sciences Research Near Chicago, IL

JOB DESCRIPTION

Research Associates are responsible for project support and completing tasks related to research design, data collection, study management systems design and testing, monitoring, cleaning, analysis and delivery; assisting Task Leads and/or the Project Manager in keeping tasks on track; developing instruments for quantitative and/or qualitative data collection; planning and conducting a wide range of data collection activities; and contributing to the preparation of trainings, proposals, reports, and presentations.

Preferably applicants will be based in either our Chicago, IL or Bethesda, MD offices with a hybrid office/work from home schedule. NORC also recognizes that talented and skilled researchers live throughout the U.S. and does support remote work arrangements.

DEPARTMENT: Health Sciences

The Health Sciences team is versatile and experienced in data acquisition, management, technical assistance, and analysis; the use of information technology in health care; and numerous data collection methods. Our track record of leadership and innovation includes the design and management of large-scale surveys, including extensive experience collecting bio measures.

NORC’s Health Sciences staff work closely with colleagues in Health Care and Public Health to offer program, policy, and research solutions. Our work is guided by a commitment to long-lasting partnerships, transparency, and high-quality, nonpartisan research that improves health and health care for all people.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Taking supporting role on key tasks related to research design, data collection and analysis while helping the Project Manager keep tasks on track
  • Take meeting notes and prepare initial drafts of minutes; take notes during telephone/in-person interviews
  • Developing instrumentation for quantitative or qualitative data collection
  • Assisting with the development of specifications for IT systems; systems testing; systems documentation.
  • Communicate technological concepts, including writing specifications and requirements in coordination with other team members
  • Perform quality assurance tasks, including testing IT systems and interfaces
  • Develop documentation and training materials
  • Conduct background research including literature reviews, environmental scans, draft memos, summaries, and sections of reports under direction of more senior staff
  • Serve as a liaison with other departments (e.g., TSSO, Statistics, IT, etc.) to execute project plans.
  • Playing a key role in management, coordination, writing and budgeting tasks related to business development.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Science or related field from accredited college or university.
  • Masters Degree or 18 months of research experience in health sciences, public health, health policy with qualitative and/or quantitative methods and analysis required
  • Strong analytic ability, writing and organizational skills are required
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Occasional travel for site visits and meetings may be required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The pay range for this position is $61,000 - $70,000.

This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
