Description

Primary scheduled hours: 80 hours per pay period. Day shift.

Job Summary:

Assist with patient's billing questions, receipting of payments. Assist patients with the NHHS Financial Assistance Program and Extended Payment Plans. Scanning of financial applications and adjustment of accounts. Processing daily mail, including sorting by insurance class. Adding checks to day Excel spreadsheet along with processing bank deposits. Out duties include reception, cashiering, scanning and miscellaneous duties.

  • Newport Hospital and Health Services is located in Newport, WA on the Washington-Idaho border. We are an independent rural healthcare provider.
  • Newport Hospital and Health Services consists of:
    • 24 bed Rural Community Hospital - Trauma Level IV
    • 15 providers Rural Health Clinic
    • 72 bed, high level care, Advanced Assisted Living Facility
    • 42 apartment; low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility

Education Background and Experience

Minimum Education:

High School Graduate or equivalent.

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of six (6) months experience in bookkeeping/accounting.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting procedures.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • General office skills such as; scanning, faxing, email, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic knowledge of an insurance remittance advice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hospital/Clinic billing, bookkeeping and Word/Excel experience.
  • Multi-line phone experience.
  • Epic experience.

  • Maintain regulatory requirements.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.

Essential Job Functions

  • Able to prepare monies for bank deposit.
  • Able to answer routine questions from patients concerning payments.
  • Treats patients with respect, maintains confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist patients and insurance companies with billing problems.
  • Orders itemized bills for patients and insurance companies when requested.
  • Sorts and delivers interdepartmental mail.
  • Demonstrates a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.

Compensation/How We Care For You:

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range ($18.04 - $21.25/hour) dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.
