New York Genome Center is Hiring a Senior Accounting Manager Near New York, NY

Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the New York Genome Center accounting team. This is a supervisory position, with 2-3 direct reports.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Directly manage the daily and monthly accounting activities including,:
    • Ensure the monthly close is completed in a timely fashion;
    • Review and approve all revenue journals, paying particular attention to new accounting guidance for contributions and exchange transactions;
    • Review all journal entries to ensure proper accounting treatment and proper support;
    • Review/prepare all aspects of inventory process (goods received, usage, replacements, WIP, COS, inventory counts, etc);
    • Coordinate monthly meetings with the lab to review revenue projects and margins, as well as WIP projects - prepare or review necessary reports, record resulting entries, complete revenue and cost of sales analysis;
    • Supervise the timely completion of other monthly close processes including revenue reconciliation, customer deposits, unbilled AR, fixed asset additions and depreciation, prepaid amortization, interest expense accruals, new pledges, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and capital leases; and
  • Review any new/one-off items or accruals of any other significant items.
  • Manage the weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting process including, but not limited to, review or prepare the following reports:
    • Weekly accounts receivable reports;
    • Monthly budget to actual report;
    • Quarterly financial reporting to third parties; and,
    • Quarterly debt covenant calculation and reporting.
  • Monitor cash balances and prepare cash reports for CFO's review;
  • Lead significant phases of the annual financial statement audit (examples include preparation of year-end financial statements and footnotes, sample testing of transactions and controls);
  • Supervise 2-3 accountants;
  • Lead projects/initiatives including replacing the current accounting system;
    • Banking upgrades and
    • Implementation of SAP B1 additional features.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and general ledger accounts in SAP and Sage Intacct;
  • Resource for all not-for-profit accounting including, but not limited to, contributions, net assets, functional expenses, financial reporting specific items, and federal and state grants;
  • Provide support and assistance with the 990 and 990-T annual filings, including the review of schedules;
  • Mentor and develop staff and interns (develop check lists, account reconciliation templates, training videos);
  • Manage requests and responses from/to senior leadership team and assists with variance analysis and special requests;
  • Maintain strong internal controls in each of our business processes and ensures compliance with policy and procedures (expense reimbursements, vendor payments, accounting regulations); and,
  • Stay abreast of new accounting pronouncements, tax rate changes and other industry developments.
Job Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting required;
  • Graduate degree or CPA preferred;
  • 12 or more years of accounting experience required;
  • Big 4 experience, including experience in multiple clients across different industries, required;
  • Not-for-profit experience, including 990, financial statement and A-133 audit experience, highly preferred;
  • Strong technical accounting experience including financial statement preparation and internal controls;
  • Effective communication skills and the presence to engage others; and,
  • A hands-on attitude with the willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and do the work that is required.

Work Flexibility
NYGC has established a flexible work policy to give employees and other staff more ability to balance their work, personal commitments, and commuting challenges. The incumbent in this position is eligible for a flexible work schedule or hybrid remote work arrangement with supervisory approval. The position requires at least 1-2 days working onsite each week.
Salary & Benefits
The pay range for this position is $116,000 - 157,000 per year; the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

About the New York Genome Center
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's), and cancer.
Located in Lower Manhattan, the New York Genome Center was founded by and remains closely affiliated with the leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions.
