Neppl Research Group is Hiring a Postdoctoral fellow Near Boston, MA

A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated Ph.D., or M.D. Ph.D., who will dedicate his/her
postdoctoral study to the fields of “skeletal and cardiac muscle hypertrophy”, “regeneration”, “RNA biology”,
and “gene therapy”. The projects are focused on understanding how non-coding RNAs modulate the cellular
and molecular mechanisms underlying muscle homeostasis and the progression of disease. Prior experience
in small animal surgeries is a plus.
The fellow will drive a new project focusing on uncovering the molecular mechanisms regulating the
progressive loss of functional performance, in both skeletal and cardiac straited muscles, as a function of age.
This project seeks to uncover the molecular mechanism and biological role of two novel long non-coding RNAs
(lncRNAs) in modulating myocytes adaptations to physiological stress. This project will make use of novel
mouse genetic models, Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP), next generation RNA sequencing, and more
traditional cellular and molecular biological techniques. It is anticipated that new findings will help uncover the
mechanisms underlying muscle atrophy and the progression of myocardial remodeling with advancing age.
Thus, the successful accomplishment of the project will allow the fellow to launch a promising research career
in skeletal and/or cardiac muscle biology.
Candidates must have a recent Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in biological sciences and a strong publication
record. They should demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English and in communicating scientific
research findings accurately. Strong writing skills are essential, as well as a track record of first authorship for
peer reviewed publications. The candidate must be able to conduct independent research while collaborating
with others in a large interdisciplinary open laboratory setting.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in at least two of the following areas: stem cell biology, skeletal muscle
or cardiac muscle biology, Chromatin Immunoprecipitation, epigenetic regulation, RNA biology, and cell
signaling. Experience with the mouse model organisms is required.
The position provides an exciting opportunity to work at the interface of basic and translational research in the
collaborative and stimulating environment of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the
Longwood Medical Area. Brigham and Women’s Hospital provides multiple career development programs for
trainees and a highly interactive multidisciplinary research environment.
Interested candidates should send a CV, a description of research interests and career goals, and contact
information for three references to:
