Summary
This position is in a fast-paced legal environment, working for the managing partner of a well-respected and established Belleville, IL, personal injury and workers’ compensation firm. Applicant must have experience in litigation and a strong command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PDF files. Experience with case management software is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate is an efficient problem solver with good organization, communication, and attention to detail. This position drafts and files motions, contacts clients, manages and reviews medical records and bills, and develops and executes case investigations and strategies. This position assembles confidential information and corresponds with a diverse group of external contacts. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
Essential Functions
1. Organizing and reviewing medical records, bills, and other evidence.
2. Contacting clients to discuss treatment, gather information, and relay recommendations.
3. Filing legal documents in civil and workers’ compensation venues.
4. Managing attorney calendar and deadlines.
5. Preparing cases for depositions, hearings, and trials.
6. Communicating with judges, attorneys, and expert witnesses.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. Every day, the person in this position will interact with clients, opposing adjusters and attorneys, medical offices, and other professionals. This position may work in a hybrid capacity.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role; however, the ability to bend, stand, use stairs, and perform filing is required. Helping with everyday office tasks is also required occasionally. This may include lifting up to 25 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week. Work hours can be flexible within normal hours of operation Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel
Travel is limited but may include local errands or travel to various hearings, trials, and depositions within the metro St. Louis area and Southern Illinois. Use of a personal vehicle is required. Mileage is reimbursed according to applicable government rates.
Required Education and Experience
1. High School Diploma.
2. Paralegal certificate/degree or comparable training.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Prior experience in a law office.
2. Certificate or training in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
3. Knowledge of State and Federal Court rules, filing procedures, and E-Filing systems.
4. Experience with case management software.
Compensation/Perks
1. The starting salary is equivalent to $50,000 per year, negotiable based on experience.
