Job Summary

The Grants Accountant, who reports to the Controller, shall assist the Grants Lead, Program Managers, and Data Analyst Team with meeting grant requirements to ensure accurate and timely invoicing and reporting, and assist with other accounting duties as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for specific grants from data entry to invoicing and reporting.
  • Record cash receipts in MIP Fund Accounting software and Raiser's Edge
  • Enter grant information into the Grants Database and keep the database up-to-date.
  • Assist with preparing various journal entries, including journal entries for in-kind contributions.
  • Prepare grant billings, reconcile receivables, and pursue unpaid billings.
  • Assist with the annual audit preparation – prepare various schedules for audit purposes.
  • Maintain an effective level of communication with program managers, as well as all grantors/funders.
  • Work collaboratively with Grants Lead to develop and update grants billing procedures and systems.
  • Reconcile receivable-related general ledger accounts and may assist with reconciling other general ledger accounts as needed.
  • Cross train in other accounting functions to provide backup in accounts payable and or payroll.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • AA in Accounting (BA preferred) and 2 years accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a culturally diverse workplace dedicated to equity and inclusion.
  • Neighborhood House is on a journey to become a fully inclusive, multicultural, anti-racist organization. Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to advancing racial equity and social justice.
  • Proficient in Excel and demonstrated knowledge of Word and Access software programs. Position includes considerable importing and exporting of data, use of pivot tables.
  • Must be able to learn, navigate and use multiple databases, including financial software, internal Access databases and spreadsheet tools, online grantor and banking databases.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skill with the ability to multitask and prioritize with relatively limited supervision.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Maintain reliable, timely, effective communication with team members and internal customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective positive professional relationships with staff, management, and external contacts.
  • Flexible work hours with occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards that may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, and maintaining a professional demeanor.

Desired Qualifications

  • MIP Fund Accounting Software experience a plus.

Required Credentials

  • COVID-19 Vaccination (must be obtained and documentation submitted prior to employment).
  • Must pass Neighborhood House background check requirements.
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.

Post-Hire on-the-job Training Requirements

  • Current First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • Current CPR Certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
