Naval District Washington (NDW) (NAF) is Hiring a FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST Near Washington, DC

Duties
  • You will determine education and training requirements to establish training methods for fire personnel.
  • You will manage programs related to fire prevention and training.
  • You will monitor required certifications to ensure fire department personnel are in compliance with regulations.
  • You will develop training and safety programs in accordance with regulatory agencies (e.g., Department of Defense, Occupational Health and Safety Administration [OSHA], National Fire Protection Association [NFPA]).
  • You will advise on training guidelines for the use of firefighting equipment, procedures, and techniques.
Requirements Conditions of Employment

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current State or National Registry EMT-Basic and EVOC certification.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing fire safety and occupational health concepts, principles, practices, laws and regulations to perform administrative actions to support a fire safety program; 2) Providing mentoring and guidance of fire protection and prevention to help others gain knowledge and skills; 3) Evaluating statutes, laws, regulations, licensing, and permitting requirements governing fire protection and prevention to provide fire protection assistance to others; 4) Providing technical advice of fire protection and prevention programs to assist in training services for firefighting. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position.
In addition, this position requires possession of the following certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Airport Fire Fighter, and HAZMAT Incident Commander. Military Spouse Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ). This position is subject to work a 56 hour week, 8 hours each weekday with one overnight 24 hour shift. Subject to mandatory overtime and recall.
