Natural Systems Utilities is Hiring an Operator Near New York, NY

SUMMARY:
The NY Mobile Wastewater Operator serves the NY service area. In this position, you will monitor and adjust the various treatment processes to ensure compliance with all permits and regulatory agencies. The mobile wastewater operator collects and records data and wastewater samples from their assigned facilities. The operator performs preventative maintenance on equipment as per the operations and maintenance manuals for the contracted facilities. The mobile wastewater operator is an independent and well-organized self-starter who can manage his or her schedule to complete assigned site coverage requirements as noted below.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform critical testing of facility operations, such as PH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc., in order to monitor system condition
  • Complete Discharge Monitoring Reports as required by facilities permits
  • Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil, filter and belt changes and pulling and inspecting submersible pumps, etc. (Further defined below in addendum A)
  • Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations
  • Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance
  • Assist to prepare monthly written operating report based on facility’s operation and/or maintenance records for the client, employer or regulatory agency as required
  • Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of plant problems, upsets, plant expansion, repairs, etc.
  • Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies and processes, and be aware of and report safety hazards
  • Required to be part of a 24 hour on call rotation
  • Be prepared to discuss in a professional manner the plant operations with employer, client, visitors or regulatory personnel
  • Collect required samples, log in samples correctly and accurately, and submit samples to laboratory and review results to ensure permit compliance
  • Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities
  • Assist maintenance personnel with pump, blower, motor, valve, etc. removal
  • Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
  • Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route
  • Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.
  • Confined Space Entry – this may be required on occasion after thorough training provided by NSU
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of wastewater experience, preferred but, not required
  • 40-hour work week: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30 pm (30 minute lunch)
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as requested
  • Overtime as required
  • Available for emergency situations
  • Available for a 24 hour on call rotation
  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • State Wastewater license required (or obtained while working)
    • State Water license preferred
    • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook experience preferred

Addendum to Job Description for
Water/Wastewater Operator (A)

Water/Wastewater Operator Standard Duties:
  • Process control adjustments as needed to maintain compliance
  • Complete all required Logcheck data entry
  • Complete all required NY DEP reporting
  • Sampling
    • Scheduling
    • Setup
    • Chain Of Custody
    • Lab Pickup
    • Verifying results
  • Inspect for all health and safety issues and document and report accordingly
  • Communicate all issues and client risks with Lead Operator and Service Area Supervisor (SAS)
  • Housekeeping of site and company vehicle

Operators Maintenance Responsibilities
:
  • Routine preventive maintenance
    • Look, listen, see, and smell
    • Clean or replace all filters including control cabinets as needed
    • Inspect controls and floats for proper operation
    • Visual inspection of all piping and tanks for structural issues
    • Advise operations management of spare parts needed if inventory is used and needs replaced
    • UV
      • Cleaning
      • Annual lamp replacement or as needed
      • Replace O rings, wiper rings and quartz sleeves as needed
    • Emergency Generator
      • Exercise monthly after checking air quality
      • Schedule refueling when fuel level is below 3/4
  • CMMS System (Training to be provided upon hire)
    • Input work orders into the NSU work order system including the following:
      • Site
      • Asset
      • Detailed description of the issue
      • Detailed information of the equipment that service is being requested on
      • Any relevant photographs
      • Follow up and closure of any routine preventative maintenance work orders

Operator Troubleshooting (the below is according to skills and training)
:
  • Check floats electrically
  • Change out floats if not working and level transducers
  • Check electrical power supply, including 24vdc for PLC
  • Check for blown fuses, faulty wiring or connections
  • Reset contactor thermal overloads, if possible
  • Replace I/O card for PLC if available
  • LO/TO equipment
  • Pull pumps and inspect, reverse run if capable, remove any debris/blockages
  • Check proper pump rotation, amp draw, voltage
  • Ohm motor leads to determine if windings are faulty
  • Replace equipment
  • Pull an inspect check valves/piping for debris
  • Make sure manual valves are correct
  • Test electronic valves for proper operation
  • Change permeate pump impellers and seals if needed
  • Clean and inspect membrane systems
  • Perform chemical cleanings for membranes as needed
  • Perform maintenance on equipment(change filters, belts, oil)
