Native American Rehabilitation Association is Hiring a Human Resources Business Partner Near Portland, OR

Job Summary:

As the HRBP, your role is central to forging a robust connection between NARA Northwest's strategic goals and the needs of our employees and management within the assigned business units. Functioning as a bridge between the organization and its people, you are to ensure that HR services not only reflect but actively support NARA Northwest's business strategies.

This role calls for an in-depth understanding of the organization's financial position, upcoming plans, cultural context, and the competitive landscape. Importantly, it involves infusing our strong Native American cultural values and family-oriented philosophy into all aspects of our operations to create a working environment that respects and appreciates the unique traditions and perspectives of our community.

Your insights, rooted in both organizational knowledge and cultural understanding, will be instrumental in cultivating a workplace that is not just productive, but also culturally sensitive, inclusive, and attuned to the wellbeing of our organizational family.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

While the HRBP role does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities, it involves coaching and mentoring other department members, thus contributing to a supportive and growth-oriented work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in weekly meetings with assigned business units.
  • Provide HR guidance to line management as and when required.
  • Work with the HR team to develop solutions, programs, and policies based on analysis of trends and metrics.
  • Handle and resolve complex employee relations issues, conducting thorough and objective investigations when necessary.
  • Stay updated with legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees to minimize legal risks and ensure compliance, partnering with the legal department when required.
  • Offer day-to-day performance management guidance to line management, including coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions.
  • Work with management and employees to enhance work relationships, boost morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Offer guidance and interpretation of HR policies.
  • Develop contract terms for new hires, promotions, and transfers.
  • Assist international employees with expatriate assignments and related HR matters.
  • Provide guidance on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Identify training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.
  • Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of training programs, ensuring their effectiveness and alignment with training objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply relevant sections of laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Ability to gain a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, job roles, qualifications, compensation practices, and related administrative practices.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional lifting up to 15 pounds.
