Description

Indian Preference Act: Preference in hiring is given to qualified Native Americans in accordance with the IndianPreference Act (Title 25, US Code, Section 472 and 473). POSITION SUMMARY
The SBHC Department partners with three school districts to provide comprehensive healthservices at eight SBHCs. The SBHCs reduce health inequities by focusing on prevention, youthempowerment and removing barriers to access high quality care. The Medical Assistant II (MAII)is a key member of the medical care team who proactively collaborates with providers to providehigh quality primary care to a panel of patients. The MAII assists in managing patient flow and
performs care coordination for patients in their pod, under the guidance of a registered nurse. The MAII will also perform administrative duties and attend meetings such as NAHC MAmeetings, Medical Department Meetings and other task force or committee meetings withinNAHC or the SBHC Department.

The Native American Health Center is an accredited institution and adheres to the standards ofexcellence set forth by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and theCommission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Pod Primary MA Responsibilities
1. Greets patients and initiates medical visit in a welcoming and supportive fashionappropriate to patients need and development.
2. Review patient chart and prepare vaccine report for daily morning huddles.
3. Work in conjunction with others in pod to ensure patients are roomed anddischarged in an efficient manner.
4. Appropriately prepare exam room for patient visits.
5. Conduct an initial interview; record results into the patients’ electronic healthrecord (EHR) in a timely manner.
a. Obtain consistent and accurate vitals; pulse, temperature, blood pressure,weight, and height of patients. Record results into the patients’ electronichealth record.
b. Perform developmentally appropriate blood tests, EKG's, visual acuity,urine and hearing tests
c. Collect member specimens for testing.
d. Update patient information as needed.
6. Provide patient care by following approved standing-orders based on the patienthistory and presenting symptoms.
7. Administer any ordered injections and or medications to pediatric and adultpatients; Document all results, interventions, treatments and medications fully
and appropriately into patient’s chart.
8. Update new and existing patient immunization records in all appropriatedatabases before visit completion.
9. Provide assistance to providers with procedures, using appropriate clean/steriletechniques as directed.
10. Demonstrates responsibility for proper and accurate functioning of all medicalequipment. Proactively alerts supervisor if repair, service, replacement is
needed
11. Assist in providing health education, as appropriate and as directed.
Pod Care and Case Coordination Responsibilities
12. In preparation for scheduled patients, anticipate and procure relevant documentsand data for the provider (i.e., consultation reports from specialists.)
13. Review providers’ schedule throughout the day and work proactively to keep careteam on track.
14. Assist provider with followup, as directed (i.e., outreach to patients, call labs forresults, etc.)
15. Support with panel management and group visits as needed.
16. Assist in closing the loop on subspecialty referrals, in collaboration with theReferral Coordinator.
17. Support with patient outreach, follow-up and appointment scheduling when needed and asrequested.
18. Support program staff in managing forms, for pod providers’ signature/attention.
General Duties and Responsibilities
19. Close lab and assess for supply needs according to departmental protocol daily.
20. Provide MA coverage across SBHC sites when needed and as requested. Activelyparticipate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively todrive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of
the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards,when assigned.
21. Patient Care: Demonstrate understanding and apply working knowledge of safety policiesand ensuring safe patient practices.
22. Employee Safety: Safely perform all duties; follow required protective protocols toensure personal safety as well the safety of others.
23. Support with transportation of clinical inventory supplies when needed and as assigned.
24. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities
25. Take responsibility for executing lead MA duties at designated sites: VFC tracking anddocumentation, supply management, equipment QA, patient education documents, laborganization and cleanliness.
26. Represent the School-Based Health Center department and/or Medical Assistants atinternal and external meetings, as requested.
27. Train and coach incoming and incumbent Medical Assistants on various topics and flowsthat improve clinical care.
28. Fulfill the role of Vaccine Coordinator for the assigned sites which involves but is notlimited to maintaining inventories, ordering, vaccine transportation and tracking vaccineusage. All Vaccines for Children requirements/trainings are a part of this role.
29. Maintaining inventories of site medications and supplies. Submit orders for necessaryitems to appropriate individuals.
30. Review and provide input into protocols, policies and procedures, as requested.
31. Assist Site Supervisor with contacting vendors to ensure equipment is properly functioningand maintained.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must have high school diploma or its equivalent and certificate of completionfrom an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
2. Must have State Medical Assistant Certification (RMA/CMA).
3. Fluency in both English and Spanish, both written and verbal is required, peroperational need.
4. Previous experience working as a Medical Assistant is strongly desired.
5. Computer literate; familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
6. Excellent customer service skills with patients, supervisors, colleagues and thecommunity.
7. Ability to multi-task and must be self-motivated. Work extremely well underpressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
8. Must have up to date and documented Immunizations; Proof of HBV, MMR, VZV
(or disease), current TB skin test status or chest x-ray.
9. Ability to bend, lift, carry up to 25lbs. with relative ease.
10. Must have transportation ability to transport necessary equipment, samples etc toand from SBHC clinics.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience working in a community health setting is preferable
2. Experience working with an EHR (i.e EPIC) is preferred.
3. Medical interpretation Certificate.
