WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

SUMMARY
Assist Managing Editor, Nights with assignments on night copy desk. Will perform duties of Managing Editor, Nights when that person is not in. Will work with Managing Editor/Production on programming of site. The schedule for this position is primarily five nights per week from 6pm to 2am.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Handing out editing assignments/managing night copy desk
  • Coordinate programming with Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor/Production and NHL.com producers
  • Coordinate coverage with writers in the field at night
  • Editing multiple forms of content for website, including game recaps, previews, columns, breaking news stories and features, for content, grammar and style
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure
  • Ability to write dynamic, informative headlines for various types of content
  • Ability to write or rewrite any breaking news, or other stories, as assigned, from around the League
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff and freelance writers to address issues with their stories
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required
  • Minimum 4 years of editing experience
  • Mastery of AP style
  • Extensive knowledge of hockey at all levels, especially the NHL
  • Proficiency of content management systems
Education/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, prior publishing and website experience

Required Skills
  • Strong editing and writing skills
  • Proven ability to produce clear, informative copy under tight deadlines
  • Make sound, evidence-based decisions on tight deadlines
  • Ability to learn new skills, adapt to changing technologies
  • Superior attention to detail, organizational skills

SALARY RANGE:
$88-97K
Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
