DESCRIPTION
Nashville Christian School is looking to employ a dedicated and reliable Maintenance Assistant to help maintain our facilities. The Maintenance Assistant's responsibilities include general repair/replacement tasks, preventative maintenance work, tasks as assigned by Facilities Manager, identifying needs, as well as attending training, safety programs, and staff meetings. To be successful, the Maintenance Assistant should be hard-working, have good hand-eye coordination, and be able to lift heavy objects as required. Ultimately, an exceptional Maintenance Assistant would be able to safely operate hand and power tools as well as demonstrate excellent problem-solving and time management skills. The position reports directly to the Facilities Manager with expectations to passionately support, promote, and model the ideals and values consistent with Nashville Christian’s vision, mission, and philosophy. This position also has accountability to the Head of School and Director of Operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities for this position include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
- Completing minor repair work, which includes repairing doors, locks, door frames and handles as well as replacing light bulbs, sockets, switches, and window glass.
- Performing basic plumbing tasks, which includes unclogging drains as well as fixing leaking faucets and toilets.
- Maintaining all outdoor areas, including fences, canopies, playground equipment, etc.
- Inspecting control panels and electrical wiring to detect any issues that require immediate attention.
- Taking inventory of maintenance supplies and notifying the Facilities Manager of low or depleted supplies.
- Promptly responding to requests for emergency repairs and clean-ups.
- Ensuring that all maintenance equipment is in good working order.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current Driver’s License (within 30 days of hire).
- General knowledge of the maintenance function and processes (preferable in a school setting).
- Applicants must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours) and ascend/descend a ladder or stairs.
- Ability to read and communicate well through written and oral instructions.
- Adaptable in teamwork and collaborating with colleagues and administration.
- Exhibit passion and the ability to thrive amidst change and challenging conditions while maintaining a positive outlook and forward-looking perspective.
- Demonstrated ability to keep up with fast-paced environments and to multi-task.
- Sound judgment, problem solving skills, and ethical practice.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position based on a 12-month fiscal year. The work hours will be on a set schedule as assigned Monday-Friday commensurate to the hours the school is open with a one-hour lunch break.Extended hours of work may be required at times during the week, on weekends, and at special occasions to complete specific tasks and deliverables or meet specific turnaround assignments. Time-off shall coincide with the NCS school calendar for school closures, holidays, and a modified 10-week summer work schedule as determined by the Head of School for Nashville Christian School.
