We are searching for an experienced Naropa Student Employment - Resident Assistant - copy at our 2333 Arapahoe Residence Hall facility.

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly
FTE: 50% (20 hrs/week)
Compensation: $13.00 - $13.65 January 1, 2023
Job Summary
The Resident Assistant (RA) is a para-professional, live-in position, supporting the Department of Residence Life and Student Housing. The RA’s primary role is that of community builder and person of contact for our residential students. This means that the RA must be visible and accessible within the community. The RA will be responsible for developing human potential by implementing programs that hone the social, interpersonal, behavioral, citizenship, and leadership skills for all residential students at the University. RAs also uphold the Naropa community Code of Conduct in regard to Residence Life and Housing and Naropa University policies, particularly as relates to alcohol, drugs, noise, and safety issues. RAs also serve as our Summer Conference Assistants (SCAs), assisting the Department of Residence Life and Student Housing in providing excellent customer service and hospitality to our summer conference attendees and guests. Performance is assessed in the areas of five (5) Key Accountabilities: 1) general duties, 2) community & student development, 3) administrative duties, 4) summer conferences, and 5) on-call duties.
Job Duties & Responsibilities

Key Accountability I: General Duties

  • Provide administrative support in the Department of Residence Life and Student Housing office and/or 2333 Front Desk for three hours per week. During this time, RAs will complete all tasks assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Student Housing.
  • Enforce the policies of the University and the Department of Residence Life and Student Housing.
  • Keep the Director of Resident Life and Student Housing up-to-date and informed of any and all activities, events, trends, or concerns.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly Residence Life staff meetings, regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings, and monthly community meetings.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff training sessions held prior to the beginning of each semester and throughout the year.
  • Provide 24 hour/7 days a week coverage of the RA On-Duty/Emergency Phone in a rotation with other Residence Life and Student Housing staff, including over University holidays and breaks.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the Naropa University Residence Life and Student Housing social media presence, including but not limited to the Naropa University Residence Life and Student Housing Facebook page, the Naropa University Residence Life and Student Housing Twitter account, and the Naropa University Off-Campus Housing Resources Facebook page.

Key Accountability II: Community & Student Development

  • Design and construct door decorations and residence hall decorations that coordinate with the overall residence hall theme prior to the beginning of each semester.
  • Focus on community development through social, educational, and wellness programming as specified in the programming model assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Student Housing.
  • Engage in the community as a group leader, educator and mediator and act as a positive role model.
  • Respond to and conduct health and safety checks with students who display concerning and risky behavior to themselves or the community as needed.
  • Encourage students to make connections between their curricular experiences and co-curricular interests as well as take part in on-campus engagement opportunities.
  • Encourage student involvement in the creation, communication, and maintenance of community standards through a restorative practices model.
  • Counsel students regarding personal and academic concerns.
  • Assist residents in their adjustment to roommate and community living.
  • Conduct regular floor meetings for the purpose of planning experiences, disseminating information, and explaining residence hall policies and procedures.
  • Regularly interact with all of their residents in a one on one or small group setting.
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Accountability III: Administrative Duties

  • Participate in required trainings including, but not limited to, crisis management, mediation, authentic leadership, restorative practices, emergency protocols, alternative methods of conflict resolution and diversity.
  • Complete and submit Incident Reports within 24 hours of incidents occurring.
  • Coordinate the check-in and check-out process for residents, which includes but is not limited to, key and fob distribution, collection of lease agreements, and completion of room condition forms.
  • Receive and promptly process requests for maintenance repairs and custodial needs received from residents.

Key Accountability IV: Summer Conferences

  • Maintain a welcoming presence in Naropa University Housing for conference guests and summer residents.
  • Assist conference guests and summer residents with check-in and check-out processes.
  • Prepare summer conference accommodations for occupancy, including, but not limited to: inspecting apartments for cleanliness and maintenance concerns; ensuring dishes and supplies are clean and stored appropriately; replacing supplies and linens in apartments; making beds.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by performing tasks including but not limited to: responding to requests from guests, answering phone and email communications, providing information and resources to guests, and maintaining confidentiality of guest records.
  • General cleaning and maintenance of equipment used by guests.
  • Making folders and pamphlets for guests.

Key Accountability V: On-Call Duties

  • RAs respond to lockouts, emergency situations, and policy violations. They also monitor residence hall conditions and fill out maintenance and custodial orders as necessary.
  • Due to the need for a quick response, RAs cannot be more than fifteen (15) minutes away from campus while on call.
  • During on-call shifts it is important RA’s are visible throughout the residence hall and take time to proactively develop community and minimize potential issues by visiting and socializing with residents.
  • On-call duty is 5:00pm-8:30am Monday through Friday and all day (24-hour coverage) Saturday and Sunday unless otherwise specified. During holiday breaks and other times when the University is closed, RAs are expected to be on-call all day (24 hours).

  • This position must be filled by a current Naropa Student who has completed at least one year as a full-time student at Naropa by the start date of employment in this position.
  • Must be able to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • The RA must possess strong leadership characteristics, these may include but are not limited to: responsibility, positive attitude, enthusiasm, adaptability, commitment, integrity, team-building skills, clear communication abilities, sound judgment, initiative, the ability to appropriately delegate responsibility, time-management skills, and the ability to establish and maintain clear boundaries.
  • The RA position requires the ability to relate well to individuals of all identities, regardless of their ethnic, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, gender expression/identity, and religious backgrounds, encouraging better understanding of cultural diversity and individual differences in the residence hall.
  • The position requires the interest and willingness to learn to develop and guide a cohesive and inclusive community while supporting the academic mission of the University through purposeful programming and demonstration of personal integrity.
  • Must have and maintain a 2.5 Semester and Cumulative GPA.
  • On-call duties requiring immediate physical proximity to residence hall and periodic nighttime duties.
  • An understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
  • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and on-going self-examination.
  • University Student Conduct History will be taken into consideration when reviewing applications.

A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week.
