Preschool Teacher

We are searching for an experienced Preschool Teacher at our Alaya Preschool facility.

Job Summary

The Alaya Teacher is responsible for working with the Lead Teacher and other members of the teaching team in the general supervision and management of a class of children. The number of children and staff in the classroom will depend on the classroom assignment.

We are seeking 1 Full-time (32 hours) and 1 Part-time (28 hours) position.


Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with children ages two years to eight years under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Provides joyful grounded care and supervision for the children in the classroom and on the playground and ensures the safety of children at all times. Discipline and delight go hand in hand.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • Treating one’s self, teaching partners, families and children with dignity and respect.
  • As part of the teaching team, assisting the lead teacher in planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school.
  • Gearing the program to the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, developmental needs, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning with attention to the changing needs of the children.
  • Considering individual children in relationship to their cultural and social-economic background.
  • Helping children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
  • Being responsible as part of a teaching team for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.
  • Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
  • Participating in parent conferences, an exchange of information, on children’s school adjustment.
  • Assisting in ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children, including written reports.
  • Regular communication with families regarding daily occurrences in the classroom.
  • Engaging as a member of the classroom teaching team in working and learning together to ensure the smooth coordination of all classroom activities and staff and student interrelationships.
  • Attending all staff meetings and in-services.
  • Demonstrating an investment in professional development.
  • Attending all school functions and events to which parents are invited or required to attend.
  • Other tasks as required.

What Naropa Requires:

  • Prior relevant professional experience required:
  • Experience working with young children
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • CBI, FBI, Trails and Out of State Background Checks.
  • Colorado Professional Development System Training Requirements:
  • Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect.
  • Preventing Shaken Baby and Abusive Head Trauma.
  • Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for Childcare Providers (FEMA Training).

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions:

  • Maximum amount of weight employee must be able to lift/carry with or without reasonable accommodation(s): 50 pounds
  • During regular daily activities, employee must be able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation: lift up to 30 pounds, stand, walk, sit, run, handle/finger, bend at the waist, reach above shoulder level, kneel, crouch, crawl, interruptions/distractions, and heat/cold.

A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week. Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa’s retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.
All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
