    TITLE:
    High School Athletic Director
    DEPARTMENT:
    Athletics
    REPORTS TO:
    High School Principal and Asst. Superintendent for Secondary Education

    Aquatic Director
    Grounds Keepers
    Athletic Trainer
    Athletic Secretary
    Ticket Manager
    OVERALL DESCRIPTION:
    To improve the quality of athletic and other extracurricular activities for the students in the District by being accountable for the administration, supervision, coordination and evaluation of the athletic programs and ensures implementation of all policies and procedures of District 203, DuPage Valley Conference and the IHSA.
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Plan, organize direct and evaluate all interscholastic athletic programs
      • Schedule contests within limitations of state conference rules and regulations for boys and girls sports of all levels of competition
      • Schedule officials for specific contests
      • Schedule transportation for athletic teams and/or spectators
      • Maintain appropriate records for contest results and student participation
      • Develop, organize and maintain appropriate personnel necessary for the conduct of athletic contests
    • Assist the principal in the selection and evaluation of interscholastic personnel and programs
      • Observe and evaluate interscholastic staff during practice and game situations
      • Evaluate athletic programs annually
      • Meet with principal on regular basis to discuss personnel
      • Encourage professional improvement for coaches through conventions, clinics and professional organizations
      • Orient all new staff members
    • Be responsible for the requisition, inventory, maintenance and use of equipment
      • Develop a detailed budget as to projected incomes and expenses for the current school year
      • Purchase all athletic equipment and supplies through the appropriate process
      • Inventory, maintain and store equipment supplies
      • Arrange for maintenance and replacement or repair of indoor and outdoor facilities and equipment
    • Be responsible for scheduling and administering facilities under direct supervision to assure minimum of conflicts for scheduled events
      • Be responsible for establishment of athletic schedule calendar and submit to appropriate administrative personnel for total school activity scheduling
      • Schedule facilities for practice of interscholastic competition
      • Be responsible for and coordinate proper preparation and maintenance of facilities for scheduled activities
    • Interpret departmental, conference and association policies for the staff, administration, Board of Education and the community. Serve as a member of the building administrative team
      • Serve as liaison between the athletic department, administration of the District and the community
      • Serve as liaison of the school to the state and national athletic associations and conference affiliations
      • Maintain and provide annual forms and requests to the state association
      • Attend regularly scheduled meetings of conference for athletic directors and state and national meetings
      • Communicate and maintain rules and regulations of conference and state association to parents, students and staff
      • Represent the athletic department as a liaison to the Booster Club Board
      • Be responsible for the preparation and disseminating of all information regarding the athletic program to appropriate resources
      • Coordinate athletic award distribution and activity for all sports
      • Maintain avenues of articulation with the junior high schools and with the park districts
      • Serve as member of District 203 Athletic Cabinet
    • Manage and coordinate daily activities of the department, work orders, security and safety evaluations
      • Coordinate daily work order request by the staff
      • Prepare annual building and site improvement requests with the input from administration and staff
    • Coordinates transportation for student athletes
      • Prepares athletic trip schedules
      • Logs all complaints and maintains a file on any specific problems
      • Works with Deans if there are disciplinary problems
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative Endorsement Required
    • Master’s Degree, preferred
    • At least five (5) years experience

Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking and 15% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Valid drivers license is required.
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    260 day contract, salary and fringe benefits established annually by the Board of Education.
