Nakupuna Consulting is looking to hire a Data Scientist to support the Department of the Navy (DON) CPI-BPR team. The team supports transformative change and enterprise performance management for the DON. The ideal candidate can analyze, synthesize, and transform complex data into digestible and informative visuals and recommendations. A self-starter, capable of seamless work as an individual or in a team environment will be most successful in this role.

Responsibilities

• Identify business trends and problems through complex big data analysis.
• Interpret results from multiple sources using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining.
• Design, develop, and implement the most valuable business solutions for the organization.
• Prepare big data, implement data model(s), and develop database(s) to support the business solution(s).
• Drive significant impact and value through the development, maintenance, and management of Qlik Sense dashboards and solution(s).
• Utilize Qlik Sense, SQL, and Databricks, and exhibit an eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Analyze data to identify known and unknown data relationships and patterns.
• Transform data sets through quantitative and qualitative analysis into insights and compelling visuals that help inform decision making and improve the value of the DON enterprise.
• Manipulate large data sets and use them to identify trends and reach meaningful conclusions to inform strategic business decisions.
• Present data-driven insights and address questions from a non-technical audience.
• Understand data gaps that tie data components together for visualization purposes.
• Effectively partner with a cross-contractor team while receiving input from a non-technical client.
• Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile and identify gaps, uncover unmet business needs, and work with others to create a finished solution.
• Collaborate with other data professionals to extract data, create reports based on their findings, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to determine business initiatives’ success.
• Work with executives and other business leaders to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of the available knowledge management platforms in the Department of the Navy (DON) and OPNAV (e.g., Flank Speed, MSFT SharePoint, MS Teams, Power BI); provide recommendations for knowledge management processes.

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in data analysis, data management, data science, or operations research.
• Comfortable working with senior leaders and demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. 
• Critical thinking and analytical skills are a must.
• Ability to work in a team and as an individual contributor.
• Proficiency in SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Teams.
• Demonstrated experience compiling, organizing, and cleaning data for input into dashboards or business intelligence tools.
• Experience with SharePoint content management and programming languages, such as SQl, R, Python for Databricks, is preferred.

Education and Experience: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Clearance Requirements: This position requires an active SECRET security clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Work Location: Work is performed on government site at the Pentagon and via telework. Employees will work in close proximity with Government personnel.
