SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Staff Accountant will participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year end accounting process including the preparation of 30-35 balance sheet reconciliations ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Prepare between 10-15 journal entries per month to ensure the proper recording of financial transactions. Support Finance Department in updating systems, internal controls, and processes where needed.

Participate in the Guest Service Program to support the Museum's commitment to providing our guests and colleagues with a welcoming and comfortable environment:

  • The Guest Service Orientation (Mandatory)
  • The Guest Service Experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts each month to ensure transactions are accurate and properly recorded. Submit reconciliations for monthly review by Manager.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries to ensure proper recording of financial transactions.
  • Support quarterly cash counts of the Box Office and gift card counts of the Store and report results to Manager for review, to ensure proper accounting of Museum assets.
  • Assist the Controller and Manager in the annual financial statement audit in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles to ensure accuracy of statements for use by the management, trustees, and outside agencies.

  • Engage in cross training within department and act as primary backup to functions assigned by Manager.

  • Responsible for research and preparation of abandon property to be remitted to the State of Massachusetts which ensures we are in compliance with the state law. Report is reviewed by the Controller prior to submission to the state.

9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday

REPORTS TO:

Manager, Accounting Data Services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts degree
  • 1 or more years of accounting experience
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and be able to prioritize workflow
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with staff and external contacts to resolve any issues
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of spreadsheets

STARTING SALARY:

Exempt (Salaried) ; $50,000-$60,000 per year
