JOB TITLE: Project Engineer

REPORTS TO: Project Manager, Superintendent, Director of Construction, and Principals (Scott Murfey and Russell Murfey)

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: Subcontractors, consultants, vendors, as applicable

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY: Murfey Company, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to assist with overseeing the construction of our projects, ensuring their delivery on time and within budget. The Project Engineer will be responsible for directing, organizing, and controlling project activities, under the direction of the Project Manager and Superintendent, including assisting in project management, project coordination, estimating, plan reading and takeoffs.

NATURE OF WORK:

  • Preparation of critical and/or confidential information.
  • Filling out subcontracts for owner approval and execution.
  • Meeting Agendas and documents.
  • RFI’s, Submittals, including tracking logs.
  • Take-offs, estimating, competitive bidding.
  • Budget tracking with schedules of Values on AIA G702-703 forms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create job folders.
  • Save plans/order prints.
  • Create bid binders.
  • Request bids.
  • Revise in house bids.
  • Catalogue sub response/bid.
  • Set up job walks.
  • Attend client meetings and assist with determination of project requirements.
  • Take meeting minutes.
  • Issue subcontracts/owner change orders/sub change orders.
  • Track and manage completed change notices and change orders.
  • Enter and manage budget in software.
  • Write and distribute RFIs.
  • Catalogue RFI’s and responses and As-Built them in Procore.
  • Create the Submittal Register (lift) for the project.
  • Process and distribute submittals in Procore
  • Review the Knowledge Base for use when reviewing submittals.
  • Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information to the client and project team.
  • Ensure clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Prepare substantial completion certificates and ensure all required project close out documents are obtained.
  • Keep the project manager and others informed about project status and issues that may impact client relations.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of reading plans.
  • Engage in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Assume responsibility for estimating and quantity takeoffs.
  • Create project proposals and estimates.
  • Review invoices for billing accuracy and approve in paperless software.
  • Keep and coordinate the manpower schedule.
  • Maintain delay logs
  • Modify / create scopes and Procore templates

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 years’ experience supporting construction project teams
  • Proficient in English, grammar, punctuation, and basic writing skills
  • College degree in Construction Management or similar discipline preferred
  • Positive attitude
  • Highly organized
  • Proficient in Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, Bid Mail or other estimating software, PDF editing.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision, prioritize and organize workload
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and easily develops rapport with people.
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to relate well with customers, management, and staff at all levels throughout the Company

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent interaction with people, including owners, staff, agencies, and consultants.
  • Requires extensive workdays when scheduling dictates.
  • Requires walking and visiting construction sites.
