Multnomah Athletic Club is Hiring a Safety Coordinator Near Portland, OR

General Position Summary: Responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting safety rule compliance policies, procedures, programs and initiatives. Working closely with Executive leadership, the Facilities Director, and other departments for effective operation of MAC’s safety programs. The position’s focus & role is Club wide, minimizing safety hazards and risk of injury to members, guests, and staff. In coordination with the Security Manager, coordinates the club’s emergency response programs and responds to emergencies. Serves on the MAC’s Safety Committee and may serve on member committees as needed. Essential Job Functions/Major Responsibilities: Develops and assists in overseeing Club wide safety policies, programs, procedures, and initiatives, including quarterly inspections of fire life safety infrastructure, AED’s, oxygen, panic alarms, emergency phones, club communications, etc. Ensures all incidents, accidents, near-misses are thoroughly investigated causes are identified and solutions are implemented. Trains employees on how to prepare reports of findings, including recommendations to prevent recurrence and implements approved corrective action. Participates in the development, implementation, training and management of the Club’s emergency response programs. Responds to emergency situations. Administers first aid, CPR/AED and/or oxygen and requests medical service as necessary. Establishes and enforces club wide safety policies and procedures to be in compliance with OSHA General Industry and Construction standards, and Oregon OSHA supplemental standards. Conducts regular safety inspections/audits, including those required by OSHA. Coordinates Club-wide hazardous materials program. Develops, implements and trains staff on the club’s safety programsDevelop policies and procedures to facilitate and oversee service providers / contractor safety plan review, and support for compliance with club policies. Develop light duty workforce tasks for early injury release. Effectively responds to members’ comments and concerns to include assigned sounding board comments, website comment replies, and other concerns. Complies with all Club safety policies and procedures demonstrating safe work practices. Identifies and reports unsafe or hazardous work conditions. Reports all workplace injuries and illnesses to supervisor and/or Human Resources. Promotes the MAC mission and values in club activities and demonstrates the importance of providing quality service to members. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secondary Functions: Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor. Promotes club wide safety awareness of members, guests, and staff. Provides staff support to House Committee in evaluating effectiveness of Club Rules and recommending changes to improve safety. Identifies club safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs in conjunction with Human Resources staff. Maintains MAC safety library (e.g. videos, regulations, reference manuals, etc.). Assists in preparation of annual operating budget. Participates in all club-related training classes. Assists Facility Director and Security Manager as needed. Job Scope: The Safety Coordinator will adhere to position duties and responsibilities as regards to all staff, service standards and other secondary functions outlined by the Facilities Director. Must demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory skills to achieve high level of service to exceed membership expectations. Responsible for setting and maintaining the safety culture at the MAC. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will coordinate across the MAC’s complex organizational system through informal authority. The Safety Coordinator does not have any direct reports but will need to ensure work and compliance is achieved. Interpersonal Contacts: Must display a fresh, optimistic, and amiable attitude. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form with staff, guests, and the management team. Excellent customer service and decision-making skills are a must. Contacts are made with others both inside and outside the organization. Internal contacts frequently include the Facilities Director, Facility Manager, other Facilities Department staff and Club Staff from all other departments. External contacts may include members and contractors. Interactions tend to focus on information exchange, receiving direction, or receiving training. Contacts never include sensitive or confidential information. Specific Job Skills: This requires the physical ability to bend, twist, lift up to 20 pounds regularly & climb stairs required. Physical ability to operate telephone, computer hardware/software including keyboard, and 10-key, to type at a minimum of 40 wpm and to sit for extended periods of time.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members and staff.Ability to perform the essential job functions. Education and/or Experience: Five years related occupational safety management experience. Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, or related field. Significant work experience and documented certifications may be substituted. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred. Knowledge of best safety practices and theories. Broad knowledge of OSHA safety codes and regulations Oregon OSHA and Federal OSHA safety laws; 30-hour OSHA 1910 general industry certification and 1926 OSHA 30 hour safety certifications. Possession of current CPR and first aid certifications. Exceptional decision making and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, and reasonable course of action particularly under stressful conditions. Ability to be successful in a customer service-oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively and courteously with members, guests, and staff and contractors. Ability to write clear, accurate reports and the development of pertinent policies. Ability to enforce Club Rules fairly and respectfully. Proficient computer skills including MS Office.Ability to effectively motivate and develop staff and build cohesive work teams. Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.Ability to perform the essential job functions.
