Job SummaryWe are looking for someone who can be a part of a highly collaborative team while being able to make independent decisions that align with our company’s Mission, Vision, and Values. The Director of Setting is responsible for ensuring our product offering meets the diverse needs of our community while also fostering a routesetting culture rooted in wellness, discovery, and the endless pursuit of mastery. The Director of Setting will work closely with the Senior Director of Setting and the Senior Director of Gym Operations to coordinate resources of the setting department with the needs of the local gyms. The Director of Setting is expected to play an instrumental role in developing the talent of their region's setting teams through their own knowledge of the craft, passion for climbing, and connection to the community while being the primary leader for setting team. The Director of Setting is accountable for keeping the region's routesetting teams on budget and meeting targets. RoleThe Director of Setting for New York/Pennsylvania plays a key role in leading & driving department projects forward by engaging with leadership and ensuring effective implementation of policy and procedures in the day-to-day. Below is a short-list of some of our department’s current areas of focus that you would be involved in:
Development of national framework and tool/resource libraries for all routesetters
Develop a strong connection with the local climbing community and continually assess their needs and growth trajectory to improve the routesetting offering
Utilization and adoption of Plastick/Kaya software within our setting program and the community
Advancement of Movement's Routesetting Apprenticeship Program- helping to onboard new team members and provide aspiring routesetters with growth opportunities
Job Responsibilities
Acting as the primary support for local Head Setters or Assistant Directors of Setting with presence in gyms at least three days per week
Manage and support the Head Routesetters and Assistant Directors of Setting ensuring smooth in gym operations, administrative needs are met, team members are trained and mentored, and an excellent member and guest experience
Partner with the Sr. Director of Gym Operations and Senior Director of Routesetting to make sure route quality, grade distribution, and rotation is keeping up with current trends and meeting customer needs and requests
Collaborate with the Director of Setting team on projects that drive the development and innovation of Movement's Routesetting program
Implement strategy as directed by the Sr. Director of Routesetting
Leading Regional team meetings
Driving professional development workshops and initiatives through direct leadership or empowerment and mentorship
Help recruit, hire, and train routesetters on a rolling basis
Driving the formal review process for performance management and mentoring Routesetting leaders in performance management with their teams
Play an active role in engaging with our community members and being an ambassador of the craft
Job Qualifications
5 years of setting and climbing experience in a commercial climbing facility as a Head Setter
Highly adaptable and able to navigate a dynamic, fast paced environment in a growing industry
Proficient in organizational tools such as web-based applications and MS Office suite
Proven leadership experience and refined organizational skills
Able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
Refined understanding of fundamental climbing movement and the ability to break down complexities of climbs
Ability to test and evaluate the accessibility, quality, and difficulty of climbs across a wide variety of styles
The ability to climb V8 and 5.13 in multiple styles is preferred, but not required with the appropriate skillset.
Able to provide and receive constructive feedback in a timely and effective manner
Thrive in a team environment and work well with others within the setting team and across departments
Executes all tasks and responsibilities with a level of professionalism that sets an example for the rest of the industry to follow
Candidate should be creative, with an eye for detail, and should be able to express themselves within a structured system.

Additional Details
This is a full-time, salary position
Starting salary for this role is $95k-$105k, commensurate with experience, and in context of cost of labor
This role is based with in New York– applicants will be assigned a primary location and must be able and willing to travel between gyms, depending on the company’s overall needs. Travel between gyms will be compensated according to the team member handbook
