Position Title : Therapist

Department: C/A, A/ICU, Residential Units

Supervised By : Unit/Program Director

Summary of Responsibilities: Responsible for providing and timely charting of the assessments, treatment plans, and counseling services to all the patients and their families; i.e., individual counseling, family counseling, group counseling, and discharge planning. Marketing and referral development.

Special qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related mental health field. Masters degree in on of these fields is highly desirable.
  • At Bachelor Degree level a minimum of two-year counseling experience in an adolescent inpatient treatment program is desirable. Master or Doctoral level counselors must have training in treating child/adolescent psychiatric disorders.
  • Understand of adolescent psychopathology, basic counseling skills of Individual, Group, and Family counseling.
  • Ability to document all aspects of Case Management.

Physical Requirements:

Due to safety concerns candidates must be able to perform these pre-requisite physical tasks:

Heavy lifting up to (70) pounds, pulling and reaching above shoulder, ability to process and respond to written and verbal instruction and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Conducts individual counseling sessions with each assigned patient beginning within 24 hours of admission or next working day. Thereafter for a minimum of two (2) visits or at least 120 minuets per week.
  • Provides initial contact and begin psychosocial to new patients within 24 hours of admission or next working day.
  • Contacts family with 24 hours or next working day and meets with each assigned family on a weekly basis. First family session to be held within 5 working days.
  • Conducts family workshop as assigned.
  • Contacts referral source/collateral referral source within 24 hours of admission or next working day and weekly thereafter and upon discharge.
  • Completes psychosocial with 24 hours of admission.
  • Family education programs deal with aspects of healthy family systems.
  • The destructive aspects of chemical dependency in family systems will be discussed.
  • Arranges for patient to attend, at a minimum, three AA/NA meeting a week as necessary on patient diagnosis.
  • If required for vocation rehabilitation, the patient is enrolled with the rehabilitation counselor in home county.
  • Refers each patient to formal continuation of treatment services, where needed in order that the psychotherapeutic process will continue.
  • If the patient was referred to the hospital by an Affiliate professional, the patient will be referred back to the Affiliate professional for continuation of treatment.
  • Charts timely and accurately in the medical record all duties/interactions with patient family, referral sources, collateral referral sources.
  • As assigned, addresses public meetings, clubs, school classes, and other groups interested in chemical dependency and other subject matters.
  • Actively observes patients in clinical activities.
  • Interacts with patients during free time and leisure activities.
  • Conducts Vibrant, Meaningful, Group Therapies Sessions (VMG’s)
  • Participates as therapist in patient education groups.
  • Participates with Treatment Team in routine team conferences, staffing and patient evaluation meetings.
  • Attends team meetings on time and is prepared to discuss status of assigned patients.
  • Charts after each individual, family and group session.
  • Follows correct charting procedures.
  • Develops patient treatment plans within prescribed time frames.
  • Updates treatment plans as dictated by treatment team.
  • Presents status of patient at each patient staffing.
  • Provides marketing function as required by marketing team.
  • Sends appropriate letter to referral sources at admission and time of discharge.
  • Performs special projects assigned.
  • Conducts marketing calls timely and as assigned.
  • Adheres to dress code policy.
  • Demonstrates responsibility in terms of attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintains patent and employee privacy and confidentiality.
  • Completes social assessment within specified time frame
  • Completes chemical dependency assessment within specified time frame.
  • Abides by the personnel policies.
  • Acts as a role model for patients and other staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
