Mount Sinai Hospital is Hiring a Director Media Relations Near New York, NY

Job Description
The Director, Media Relations supports the development and implementation of strategic public relations programs that highlight key clinical, health and research programs, initiatives and activities of the organization. The Director also participates in the development and execution of crisis communications plans. The Director may act as leader of the Press Office in the absence of the Senior Director of Media and Communications, as directed by the Senior Director. The Director is responsible for a number of key service-lines, referred to as "beats" in the Press Office, to be assigned. Anticipated initial assignments include cancer; heart among other beats.
Responsibilities
1. Planning public relations activities and developing media outreach strategies
2. Drafting press releases and proactive media pitches
3. Helping fulfill incoming media requests
4. Identifying newsworthy topics and experts to discuss them in interviews
5. Preparation of reports on and maintaining documentation of public relations activities.
6. Assists in preparing staff for interviews, involving the development of talking points
7. Build and maintain relationships with key press and internal constituents, and assists in the management of press relations during major events and crises
8. Translate and communicate basic science, clinical and educational news through the writing and production of communications materials such as press releases and media advisories
9. Address press inquiries; proactively pitch stories that differentiate Mount Sinai from its competitors and position the institution as a world-class medical center, pioneering research institute and innovator in medical education
10. Handle special projects with strategic media partners and create new partnerships with external associations and trade groups
11. Differentiate and assist in positioning individual departments, physicians, programs and services to elevate their reputation among key constituencies and consumer markets, locally, nationally and globally
12. Participate in or may independently manage the coordination of press conferences
13. Attend departmental meetings within the institution and offer creative ideas for enhancing coverage via print publications, web, television and radio
14. Work with the Web Managing Editor and the Associate Director in the production and update of content for the digital Newsroom
15. Write daily and weekly media reports to highlight the results of the Office's media outreach
16. Supervise Mount Sinai Marketing Video studio, and its staff, as needed
17. May field media calls after normal business hours (on call duties) as necessary
