EXECUTIVE SUMMARY :

The Food Service Director oversees the production and delivery of all meals served to students in the Mount Pleasant School District, following guidelines and directives from USDA and State Nutrition Directors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Under general supervision of the Superintendent, the Food Service Director performs the following responsibilities.

Program Oversight

  • Ensures compliance with USDA and local health department guidelines.
  • Provides training in all aspects of food safety.
  • Administers the NSLP and NSBP
  • Administers the Free and Reduced Lunch / Breakfast Program

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES DESIRED :

Preferred Education and Licensure :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational experience with major in specific areas
  • Bachelor's degree in any academic major, and, State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors, OR
  • Bachelor's degree in any academic major and at least one year of relevant food service experience, OR
  • Associate's degree or equivalent educational experience with academic major in specific areas and at least one year of relevant food service experience, OR
  • High School diploma (or GED) and three years of food service experience
  • Valid ServSafe Certification, or ability to obtain
  • At least eight hours of food safety training is required either not more than five years prior to start date or completed within 30 calendar days of start date
  • Related majors include food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.

Knowledge and Skills :

  • Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrates an understanding of institutional food production and food safety techniques.
  • Understands human resource management in a food production setting and provides training
  • Ability to work with State and local agencies in promoting healthy eating practices.
