Mott MacDonald is Hiring a Construction Manager Near Los Angeles, CA

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Construction Manager, stations on a large Heavy Rail Transit project in Los Angeles. The Construction Manager will provide qualified on-site supervisory staff for support of construction management activities of the construction contracts. The Construction Manager shall be experienced in the type of construction required for transit facilities and have experience in the administration of construction and design-build contracts and in the day-to-day management of RE/CM staff. The Construction Manager shall have training in construction safety practices, including but not limited to, injury prevention and emergency first aid. The Construction Manager will be responsible for supporting on-site design-build management activities and may be in contact with the contractor in order to report to the Construction Management Staff during the design and construction phase.
The CM will administer the provisions of the contract while acting as a representative of client, and will perform tasks as directed by client, including but not limited to the following:

  • Communicate to the contractor construction techniques and changes where necessary to enhance job safety as directed by Safety Department.
  • Maintain contractor deficiency lists, action lists, and Non-Conformance Report logs, and enforce corrective actions as required.
  • Coordinate with the design-build contractor on all design and construction activities. Particular attention shall be directed to coordinating contractor interface requirements and monitoring contractor's performance in compliance with contract requirements.
  • Lead weekly construction progress meetings, readiness review meetings, Third party coordination meetings, design coordination meetings and other construction meetings. Publish meeting minutes
  • Monitor construction contractor progress against the approved Project Master Schedule and obtain, as needed, work-around schedules from the contractor to mitigate progress delays.
  • Maintain an accurate construction forecast and a contingency forecast with required supporting back-up.
  • Recommend, if appropriate, construction techniques to expedite the Project.
  • Document, verify, and provide monthly reports on field progress of contractors to Project Manager.
  • Review, for compliance, the submittal requirements and process same in a timely manner, verify all open issues are addressed, and following the review by its engineering consultant, return the submittal back to the contractor.
  • Assist Construction Relations Team to respond to community related complaints and to coordinate reduction of construction impacts (e.g., street closures, parking, noise, visibility and other effects to neighborhoods), which may have been specifically described as mitigation measures in the projects CEQA/NEPA environmental document, or which may be standard construction practice including procurement of materials and services as necessary.
  • Monitor performance of utility contractors and design-builder and construction contracts for compliance with environmental and sustainability requirements in order to report results monthly to Environmental Compliance and Services Department.
  • Coordinate survey work performed by CMSSC surveyors/surveying or other survey consultants for the Project.
  • Coordinate responses to inquiries from contractors regarding contract document interpretation with Contract Administrators.
  • Coordinate all responses to construction contractor's Requests for Information (RFls) with staff and Engineering Management Services Contractor.
  • Analyze construction contractor claims and Requests for Change (RFCs) and provide to Contract Administrator the basis for recommendation to resolve a claim or to authorize a change.
  • Assist Contract Administrator to process contract Change Orders (CO) and contract Modifications, including negotiations, and assist in preparation of Board agenda items.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or other related field
  • Approximately fifteen (20) years of experience in Construction Management of Large Complex Heavy Civil Engineering projects
  • Approximately five (10) years of supervisory experience in the management of Major Construction Contracts
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer, or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) is desirable.
  • Experience on Transit Projects that included tunnels, underground stations and track construction.
  • Ability to obtain Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-Hr safety certification.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $327,000
