Senior Network Engineer/System Administrator
This company unit is looking for a Senior Network Engineer/Sysadmin to join our growing DevOps & Infrastructure Team located in our software development center. The primary responsibility of this position is to design and provide support for network architecture, network devices, and network communication security within Industrial Control System (ICS) environments for non-nuclear power plants. This includes both on-premises computing edge and cloud-based infrastructure.
This company is located in Herndon, VA and the candidate will need to come into office 1 day a week.
What You Will Be Doing:
Collaborate with the DevOps and Infrastructure team to deliver cutting-edge energy management system (EMS) software that operates securely in both cloud and bare-metal hardware environments at the edge (IoT).
Offer hands-on support in building, securing, and documenting our zero-trust cloud-based production environment crucial for mission-critical operations.
Provide assistance to on-site commissioning teams in network and server troubleshooting, facilitating the completion of customer projects.
Develop expertise in customer power plant networks, adapting them to changing conditions and new client requirements.
Deliver best-practices documentation and training to commissioning teams, empowering them to resolve issues independently using our standard solutions.
Offer guidance on network technology selection, encompassing both hardware and architectural decisions.
Contribute to the company's vision by participating in product roadmap planning and evaluating new technologies.
Effectively communicate with customers and engage in project discussions to ensure alignment with their needs.
Review network architecture for new site deployments.
Remotely manage industrial firewalls, both within our cloud infrastructure and at customer sites.
Coordinate resolution of network engineering challenges with customer cybersecurity teams.
Facilitate on-site network troubleshooting in collaboration with Delivery and Lifecycle teams.
Coordinate updates, maintenance, and licensing of network components purchased by customers.
Collaborate with internal teams to validate, acquire, and test new hardware suitable for industrial environments as part of our standard product offerings.
Contribute to the development of new products, focusing on engineer and operator workstations utilizing Linux or Windows-based systems.
Work closely with other members of the DevOps team to gain insights and contribute to cloud and systems administration, with a predominant focus on Linux (90%) and Windows (10%).
Required Skills & Experience:
B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical), MIS, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3 years of TCP/IP networks and experience configuring network equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs and VLANs.
Experience with power plants or other industrial automation and control systems environments would be extremely helpful.
Demonstrated proficiency in Cloud Native technologies (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform), particularly in configuration of VPC networking and firewall rules.
Demonstrated proficiency in Linux and Windows system administration.
