Moss Utilities is Hiring a Transportation Manager Near Dallas, TX

At Moss Utilities we specialize in underground utility installations. While Moss Utilities was founded in 2016, the Moss family has a legacy in the utility construction industry in Dallas-Fort Worth dating back to the early 1900's. Moss Utilities Transportation Department plays a critical role in helping the Company achieve its goals. As a direct service provider to the Operations Team, the Transportation Department is responsible for ensuring all operational needs for hauling are met for Company owned and rented equipment, aggregates, and haul off. The Transportation Manager is ultimately tasked with the day-to-day supervision and performance of the Dispatcher, Company CDL drivers and third-party haulers.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Transportation Department including the Dispatcher, Company Haul Truck Drivers, Dump Truck Drivers, Hot Shot Drivers, as well as any Third-Party Haulers.
  • Maintain open and direct communication with the Operations Team (Superintendents, Foremen, Project Managers, etc.) regarding equipment and material moves.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with dump sites for haul off from job sites.
  • Perform monthly ride-alongs with CDL drivers to reinforce safe and efficient operations.
  • Determine adequate and safe ingress/egress routes for each project via on-site supervisors or job-site visits.
  • Provide purchase recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer for any new trucks, trailers or equipment being purchased for the Logistics Team.
  • Maintain relationships with third-party vendors including trucking companies, dealerships, etc.
  • Manage the performance of all direct reports including providing annual performance reviews.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all DOT regulations and laws as they pertain to our operations, fleet and CDL drivers.
  • Maintain working knowledge of oversize/overweight permits, axle capacities/spacings, vehicle weight ratings, etc.
  • Carry out the interview and hiring process for any employment needs directly related to the
Transportation Department. Including, but not limited to, conducting interviews, road tests, etc.
  • Maintain open communication with the Service Manager for any equipment repairs or truck/trailer repairs.
  • Work safely at all times, in accordance with Company and Customer policies/procedures.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Other tasks as business needs necessitate.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements required.
  • Experience with aggregate hauling and transporting heavy equipment preferred.
  • Prior experience in underground utility, civil and/or site work construction preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral).
  • Exceptional time management skillsAble to prioritize effectively.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to solve problems in difficult/high stress situations.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Ability to conduct herself or himself with utmost professionalism.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a larger team.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
