Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. **A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

Part-time EMT - Basic / Paramedic (EMS Division):� The primary function of a part-time Montgomery Fire/Rescue EMT – Basic / Paramedic is to respond to medical or traumatic emergencies and deliver exceptional care to patients. We are committed to protecting the community by promoting an environment of public safety within our response area. Providing emergency medical services requires an individual to work long hours under intense, fatiguing, and highly dangerous and stressful conditions. It is essential that the candidate is capable of carrying out the essential functions associated with the duties of pre-hospital care in a prompt and efficient manner. The primary focus of Part-Time EMT Basic / Paramedics will be responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls in an EMS Rescue Unit. Occasionally the EMT - Basic/Paramedic will be required to ride in to a local hospital when assisting a transporting agency. The role of Part-Time EMT Basic / Paramedics assigned to EMS will be limited to EMS functions within the Medic Division. Part-time employees will also be expected to maintain required license CEU training in order to maintain ADPH EMT / Paramedic license.� This training will not be performed while in pay status with Montgomery Fire / Rescue.�Part-time Fire Inspector (Bureau of Inspections):�The primary role of a part-time Fire Inspector is to conduct routine commercial life safety inspections and to assist with other functions as needed within the Bureau of Inspections. Candidates will inspect commercial construction for the purpose of enforcement of a minimum standard of requirements to provide a reasonable level of safety, public health and general welfare through structural strength, means of egress, facilities, stability, adequate light and ventilation, and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment and to provide a reasonable level of safety to firefighters and emergency responders during emergency operations.�Part-time Firefighter (Administrative Division):�Part-time candidates may be utilized to assist with other duties within any sector of the Administrative Division including but not limited to Supply, Maintenance, Information Technology, Fleet Maintenance and other areas.All part-time candidates will assist other employees with routine daily station or office cleaning, administrative functions and check-off of apparatus and equipment. Part-time employees will also be expected to maintain required firefighter l/ll CEU training in order to maintain certifications.� Part-time employees may attend any training offered by Montgomery Fire/Rescue at no cost to them, however, they will not be paid for any training attended outside of company/station training.� Part-time employees will not be in paid status if they chose to attend training at the Division of Training or any courses/classes scheduled by the Division of Training.Montgomery Fire/Rescue is a team of highly trained professionals that operates out of 15 stations on a 24-hour basis and responds to approximately 40,000 calls per year. Successful applicants can be placed at any one of the 15 stations depending on the need for staffing. Full time shifts are divided into a 24hr on, 48hr off schedule. Part Time shifts of 8, 12 and 24 hours may be required; Availability on nights, weekends, and some holidays is essential.�STARTING SALARY:�� ��EMS Division (EMT-Basic / Firefighter I/II)�����������������������$20/hr�� �(work hours are limited; part-time may work up to 29 hours per week)EMS Division (EMT-Paramedic / Firefighter I/II)� � � � ��$33.50/hr��� (work hours are limited; part-time may work up to 29 hours per week)�����Fire Inspector�(EMT-Basic / Inspector I)����������������������������$20/hr�� �(work hours are limited; part-time may work up to 29 hours per week)Administrative Division (EMT-Basic / Firefighter I/II)�������$20/hr�� �(work hours are limited; part-time may work up to 29 hours per week)�*Part-Time Firefighter/EMT-Basic/Paramedic applicants may later apply to transition into a full-time position when available.

Minimum Qualifications

PRE-EMPLOYMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:����Applicants shall be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment. ����Employment with the City of Montgomery is conditioned upon the potential employee passing a pre-employment drug test.��(The drug test will require the submission of a sample of hair, finger nails, and/or urine that will verify illegal drug use.)����Must possess a diploma from a high school accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Alabama State Board of Education or possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate.��NOTE:� A passing GPA from an S.A.C.S. accredited college or university may substitute for the S.A.C.S. accredited high school diploma or GED certificate requirement.� This does not include internet colleges or trade school coursework.����Must be of good moral character and have no record of convictions of a misdemeanor or felony involving violence, force, or moral turpitude.����Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a valid Alabama Driver's License prior to employment and a clean driving record.����Must Be Firefighter I/II Certified�(must complete 80 hour recertification as required by the State of Alabama if lapsed: see link-��Reinstate My Firefighter Certification - Alabama Fire College�) Volunteer status is not sufficient to maintain Firefighter I/II certification. A firefighter’s current employment record must be maintained at the Alabama Fire College to maintain current active status.� A minimum of 30 training hours per year is required.� Email�certification@alabamafirecollege.org�to check your current status.���Must be currently employed with or retired from a full time Fire Service within the State of Alabama within the last 12 months�or�have current CPAT on file�or�complete the Candidate Physical Abilities Test as required by the State of Alabama.� Fire service employment is any paid municipal, county, state, federal, or private-sector occupation that requires the candidate, as their primary duty, to actively and routinely engage in fire protection services. DOD / Federal / Private sector certified firefighters would need to obtain Reciprocity with the AFC as well as challenge the Firefighter I exam and complete CPAT.���(Bureau of Inspections) Must be certified in Fire Inspector I�and have one year of experience in Fire Inspections or Building Inspections���Note to RSA retiree applicants:�The Retirement Systems of Alabama has a postretirement employment income limitation which is prorated per calendar year. Employees who have previously retired from the Employee’s Retirement System (ERS)�must not be employed in a permanent full-time capacity with any ERS participating agency.� If a retiree’s compensation from an ERS agency exceeds the limit, the retirement benefit will be suspended for the remainder of the calendar year. See Retirement�Systems’ of Alabama (rsa-al.gov)�for more information.���Must pass a medical exam�(in accordance with NFPA 1582)���Beginning on the date of employment, Firefighters are�NOT�to smoke tobacco products or use smokeless tobacco at�ANY�time while on duty or on any City of Montgomery property.���Part-Time Employees are subject to all Montgomery Fire/Rescue Rules and Regulations as well as all City of Montgomery Rules and Regulations.�POST-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:Firefighter I/II / EMT I�applicants:Must have two (2) years of experience in a career fire department and�be Alabama Proboard Certified as a Firefighter which includes current Certifications in Firefighter I and II, EMT�I Certifications for the State of Alabama,� CPR,� and ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800, and EVOC / EVD certification.�Firefighter I/II / Paramedic applicants:Must have two (2) years of experience in a career fire department and be Alabama Proboard Certified as a Firefighter which includes current Certifications in Firefighter I and II, current Paramedic license with the State of Alabama, National Registry Certification, CPR, ACLS, PALS and ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800, and EVOC / EVD certification.�Fire Inspector: Firefighter I/II / EMT I�applicants:� Must have two (2) years of experience in a career fire department and�be Alabama Proboard Certified as a Firefighter which includes current Certifications in Firefighter I and II, EMT�I Certifications for the State of Alabama,� ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800, and EVOC / EVD certification. Must have Fire Inspector I certification. Special Requirements

Applicants outside of the State of Alabama must contact the Alabama Fire College to obtain AL Proboard Certification before being eligible to apply. Kind of Examination

Applicants will be pre-screened using the application and an applicant's responses to minimum qualifications/willingness questionnaire.
