Job Description:

Function of Position:

The Coordinator of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) is responsible for providing oversight for the development and coordination of all activities related to Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA); areas such as portfolio assessment, military evaluations, and challenge exams are some examples. Also assists with the transfer credit process.

  • This is a temporary, grant funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Maintains currency with prior learning assessment (PLA), Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), and the transfer credit process "best practices".
  • Works with SUNY Empire University and MCC leadership, creates/reviews and recommends MCC's policies and practices related to CPL/PLA so that they are consistent with standards related to accreditation.
  • Serves as constant point-of-contact and resource to answer all questions from students, faculty and staff related to CPL.
  • Assumes a lead role in assisting students to evaluate their next steps after completing an "in-take survey" tool.
  • Conducts training sessions to assist faculty and staff in understanding their roles in the CPL process.
  • Conducts training sessions with advisors and Admissions staff to assist them in understanding their role in the CPL process.
  • Meets with employers and other state agencies as requested to explain the process for petitioning credit for prior learning.
  • Works with internal resources to track the number of students pursuing CPL, including information on credits awarded, successful applications, methods used to award credit, and prepare quarterly report, per SUNY grant reporting requirements.
  • Creates, administers, and evaluates survey results of students who have undertaken the process to receive credit for prior learning.
  • Creates and shares feedback information gained from evaluation measures with campus staff and faculty.
  • Periodically recommends changes to the CPL process based on results of feedback measures and patterns of emerging data.
  • Establishes and maintains related files.
  • Maintains and updates all print and electronic media regarding current practices, policies and procedures regarding the awarding of credit for prior learning and creates new materials.
  • Travels between campuses as required.
  • Performs related work as required.

Secondary Functions:

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Vice President, Economic & Workforce Development & Career Technical Education.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling or a related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution.
  • Demonstrated experience with awarding Credit for Prior Learning (CPL).
  • Experience working with adult clients and knowledge of the fundamental principles of adult education.
  • Experience utilizing educational achievement/career assessments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of competency-based education.
  • Experience working with and assessing student learning outcomes, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of adult learners.
  • Demonstrated track record of establishing respectful relationships with adult learners.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working in online learning formats.
  • Competent in using applications in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years' relevant career, guidance, or academic advising work experience preferred.
  • Experience providing career counseling and conducting workshops in the employment and training field preferred.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.

Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $58,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
