Summary

The Missouri Girls Town Head Cook is responsible for the management of all activities and functions surrounding the food program. The Head Cook should be professional, organized, calm in crisis situations, and be willing to participate in every aspect of the Missouri Girls Town.

The Head Cook reports directly to the Billing Clerk.

Duties

The Head Cook is responsible for understanding the policies and procedures of Missouri Girls Town and well as the standards set forth by the Health Department, USDA, and the Central Missouri Food Bank.

These responsibilities are, but not limited to:

1) Oversee all operations at the Wirts Dining Hall.

a. Implement the USDA breakfast, lunch and snack program. USDA qualified breakfast and lunches will normally be served Monday-Sunday at the Wirts dining hall.
b. Provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the houses to prepare when the Wirts Dining hall is closed (USDA qualified meals are to be sent for breakfast, lunch and after school snack).
c. Help with food donation pick-ups.
d. Provide an appropriate adult relationship, be a role model to clients working under your supervision.
e. The Head Cook is expected to attend monthly administrative meetings and trauma and provide feedback and suggestions when necessary.
f. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with Missouri Girls Town staff thus helping to facilitate a constructive and helpful atmosphere for the clients to observe and emulate.
g. Attend training required to meet USDA, Health Department and Missouri Girls Town requirements.
h. Maintain cleanliness and order of Wirts Dining Hall.
i. Maintain all relevant documentation as required by the USDA.
j. Work with staff when there is an activity held at Wirts.
k. Assist with all campus special events, including Saturdays as required.
l. Maintain the implemented Food Safety Plan.
m. Supervise the assistant cook.

Qualifications

1) Minimum age of 21 years.
2) Current Class E license – Must be obtained within one month on employment.
3) High School Education or GED.
4) No criminal background or history of abuse to a child.
5) Ability to lift 50 pounds.
6) CPR and First Aid Certification.
7) Food Handlers Card issued from Health Department.
8) Trained and verbally certified in Handle with Care procedures.
9) Ability to demonstrate caring, tolerance and patience with dealing with troubled youth.
10) Ability to work and communicate with both staff and clients.
11) Ability to demonstrate understanding of philosophy, policies and procedures, strategies and programs of Missouri Girls Town.
12) Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all clients.
13) Ability to be on time and dependable.
Environmental/Working Conditions

Ability to work with the clients both inside and out at all times of the year. Hours outside normal business hours are required. This is a non-exempt position according to the FLSA. Compensation for work over 40 hours a week will be given. In addition, additional hours outside your normal work schedule may be given when authorized by your supervisor or the Executive Director.
