Accounting Specialist

Midcoast Federal Credit Union is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support our growing Accounting Department. This individual will assist in the accurate and timely reconciliation of accounting records and daily processing duties. This role is responsible for processing accounts payable transactions while ensuring compliance with internal controls and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role monitors, maintains, and reconciles payment processing, verifying invoices, and performing account reconciliations, along with assisting the Accounting Department with other tasks as assigned. This is a hybrid/remote position based out of our Freeport office with some in-person training and onsite work required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Maintains and reconciles accounts payable. Review, verify, and reconcile invoices, report

discrepancies in billing and payments and assist with resolutions. Review invoices, check

requests and related documentation for completeness and ensure compliance with internal

policies, procedures and contractual agreements, and recommends improvements to accounts payable policies and procedures.

· With limited direction, performs the accurate daily balancing of Retail Branch totals, banking activity, change funds, the related general ledger accounts, process weekly cash orders, 945 filings and other supporting records.

· Assist with preparation of Supervisory Committee documents, file maintenance reviews, vendor due diligence, comply with record retention policy, and facility related items.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience

1-3 years similar or related experience.

Education

A high school education or GED is required. An Accounting degree is preferred but not required.
