Job Description

The Assistant Clinical Manager provides support to the Clinical Manager and addresses operational issues in the absence of the manager. They are responsible for assisting the Clinical Manager with the oversight of clinical staff and the patient care processes. The Assistant Clinical Manager must be willing to assist in all areas and efficiently direct the workflow of Ophthalmic Technicians to ensure a smooth patient flow and readiness for physician care.

Essential Functions

• Assist with the direction of duties, priorities and necessities of various routines to be carried out on a daily basis by all technical personnel, therefore assuring a proper and efficient flow of patients.
• Act as the first level "go to person" for the Physicians and staff regarding troubleshooting issues when the Manager is not on the clinic floor.
• Work with Manager to develop and implement clinical schedules to ensure proper follow through and flow of patients while also coordinating vacation requests and call outs. Work with sister clinics to share resources and staff as needed.
• Assist the Manager in reviewing workflows to aid in process improvement and efficient patient care delivery.
• Consult with manager on problems and interpretation of policies and procedures to ensure patient and office needs are met.
• Clearly communicate and monitor any new processes to the office.
• Actively engage in discussion and review of processes, patient flow, EMR data input and other office activities.
• Provide manager support in organizing and conducting regular staff meetings and training staff.
• Ensure smooth office operations which support teamwork and generate a positive attitude between front office staff and clinical staff.
• Responsible for all duties of an Ophthalmic Technician in a fast paced retina specialty ophthalmic clinic, covering for staff as needed.
• Ability to complete medical and ophthalmic history, visions, scribing, OCTs, laser preparations, injection preparations, fundus and fluorescein photography, equipment maintenance and repair, entering and receiving computer data in order to cover for staff as needed.
• Ensure that clinical equipment is maintained in adequate working order and troubleshooting malfunctions; call for service as needed.
• Ensure department maintains sanitary conditions in exam and procedure rooms.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels and order supplies and minor equipment as directed.
• Promote a high quality of care delivery through protocols.
• Regular and predictable on-site attendance required.
• Works overtime as needed.
• Travels to other MAR locations as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Full time position. Overtime may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1 year health care work experience or equivalent medical training
• At least 1 year experience working in retina.
