Michigan League of Conservation Voters is Hiring a Climate Solutions Coordinator Near Ann Arbor, MI

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV) — one of Michigan’s largest, most impactful political advocacy organizations tackling drinking water contamination, the rapidly-worsening impacts of climate change, and efforts to undermine our access to the ballot — is seeking a full-time Climate Solutions Coordinator to work with us through December 13, 2024. They will lead Michigan LCV’s “Energy Savings Now” campaign, a program designed to educate Michiganders about opportunities to take action and save money via federal climate and clean energy investments. They will carry out the organization’s state-federal climate implementation work, support cross-team activities inside of Michigan LCV, and work with partners, funders, vendors, and contractors to make sure we are making and tracking progress toward our goals.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate, strategist, and campaign manager. Building a network of stakeholders and acting as a resource on climate and energy issues, particularly with regard to implementation of federal programs, will be fundamental to this role in order to deliver positive outcomes for Michigan’s air, land, water, and public health. This position, alongside a team of tenacious colleagues, will advocate for strong environmental protections, and build and amplify the voices of communities of color and other key constituencies who are disproportionately impacted by environmental issues.

Key Information:

  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Compensation: $25 per hour
  • Dates: ASAP - December 13, 2024
  • Location: Southeast Michigan, particularly in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti
  • Apply: . Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If you need accommodation or assistance with our online application, please tell us how we can make this process accessible to you by emailing jobs@michiganlcv.org or by calling us at (734) 222-9650.

About the Michigan League of Conservation Voters

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters is a statewide political organization whose mission is to elect pro-conservation candidates to office and to hold all decision makers accountable for protecting Michigan’s drinking water, attacking climate change, and expanding access to the ballot. We work closely with elected officials, business leaders, partner organizations, and advocates from across the state, and we have built a reputation as the leading, non-partisan political voice for Michigan’s land, air, and water.

Michigan LCV is an equal opportunity employer. We assure equal treatment in hiring selection, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, training, discipline, and other personnel practices and terms or conditions of employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, height, weight, marital status, genetic testing status, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender status, or any other protected class established by all applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances.

Job Responsibilities

This position reports to Federal Government Affairs Director, is based in Southeast Michigan, and is responsible for the following:

  • Carry out the state-federal side of our “Energy Savings Now” education effort - acting as the “campaign manager” by setting deliverables and metrics, managing the relationship with a canvassing vendor (including quality control, training canvassers, etc), and executing events - all to ensure that Michigan is maximizing the opportunity of federal investments in the energy space and avoiding the pursuit of false solutions
  • Work closely with Climate Solutions organizers
  • Work with the Communications team to create and coordinate strategic communications activities focused on state-federal climate implementation
  • Collaborate with the Advocacy and Outreach team to identify organizing opportunities, plan and execute canvassing campaigns, and hold events
  • Engage with and educate decision-makers and candidates
  • Represent Michigan LCV in meetings and presentations about our state-federal climate implementation work, with community groups, small businesses, lawmakers, and more
  • Identify and connect with potential storytellers about federal climate investments
  • Participating in all Michigan LCV political election work — doing the hard work of campaigning, which means door-to-door field canvassing, text and phone banking, and/or attending campaign events

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who are tenacious, self-starters, problem-solvers, innovators, and who will live our mission every day. You should have:

  • Organizing instincts, with a minimum 2 years of experience in political candidate campaigns or 501(c)(4) issue-based advocacy experience — with 1 year spent supervising staff and volunteers
  • Basic knowledge of climate change issues and policies
  • A goal-driven, organized, positive, and solutions-oriented approach to work, with the ability to complete projects independently or collaboratively as needed
  • The ability to build and effectively manage a team as well as develop and maintain strong working relationships with and among a wide range of stakeholders, including communities of color
  • Excellent planning, priority-setting, and time management skills and ability to anticipate and plan ahead for potential challenges
  • Ability to establish clear objectives and milestones, meet them, and report on them
  • Reliable access to the internet, a phone to use for work purposes, and transportation for travel across the state as well as the ability to participate in campaign activities, either phone banking or canvassing
  • Cultural competence:
  • Demonstrated awareness of one’s own cultural identity and the ability to learn and build on varying community norms
  • Ability to make authentic relationships across difference
  • Understanding of how environmental and voting rights issues intersect with racism, economic and social inequality in the U.S.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture

We know not all strong candidates will have every skill we list. We still want to hear from you. Research shows that women, non-binary people, disabled people, and people of color are less likely to apply for a position if they don’t meet every skill listed. At Michigan LCV, we believe our collective differences enable us to make better decisions, drive innovation, and deliver impactful results. We are committed to creating racial justice and equity within the environmental movement, and we know that begins with us doing the work ourselves.
