Michigan Association of School Boards is Hiring a CHILD DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST – PART TIME Near Saint Joseph, MI

Position Details

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Five or more years of relevant job experience.
2. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood development or
equivalent in a related field.
3. Experience and education with infants and toddlers preferred.
4. Interpersonal skills essential for effective communication with child care providers and
agency personnel.
5. Ability to work independently within management guidelines.
6. Working knowledge of computers (proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet
programs such as Word and Excel).
7. Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s),
etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said
document(s).
8. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
9. Required to have a physical presence at the job site each scheduled work day.
10. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the
job.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Infant and Toddler
Programs.
2. Achieve and maintain status as a reliable assessor in the Infant and Toddler Program Quality
Assessment and/or Family Child Care Program Quality Assessment.
3. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of child development, infant and toddler curriculum, child
assessment and screening tools, adult learning styles, cultural diversity, quality improvement, and
familiarity with the Child Development Associate competency standards.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and other applicable
regulations.
5. Provide effective mentor-coaching and instructional improvement strategies for all child care
providers.
6. Provide guidance and technical assistance in the implementation of program curriculum.
7. Visit all child care providers’ sites not less than every 2 weeks.
8. Observe, assess, and monitor activities and provide on-the-job guidance and training to the child care
providers and volunteers, in order to maintain high quality education services.
9. Ensure all teacher documentation is complete and submitted timely.
10. Research, analyze, and report out on site level and county level data from HighScope, COR,
ChildPlus, etc.
11. Assist in the development of individual professional development plans and county-wide professional
development plans.
12. Ensure the practices to support mental health and disabilities are implemented at child care provider
sites.
13. Establish and maintain a positive, effective working relationship with staff and families of varying
educational and cultural backgrounds.
14. Participate in all aspects of the transition process.
15. Monitor child care ratios in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and State of
Michigan Child Care licensing.
16. Assist child care providers in the Great Start to Quality self-assessment and quality improvement
plans.

17. Complete at least one formal monthly observation in each child care provider site to ensure proper
implementation of the curriculum and family needs are being met.
18. Demonstrate professional improvement through in-service attendance, State Continuing Education
Clock Hours or college credit, conference attendance, and reading professional literature.
19. Assist Education & Family Services Manager and/or Director of Early Childhood Services with
projects on as needed basis.
20. Maintain infant, child and adult CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
21. Maintain appropriate records.
22. Complete all other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD Administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part time position, 25 hours per week. Salary and conditions of
employment are determined by the Board of Education.
