Michigan Association of School Boards is Hiring a Director/Principal of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department Near Roscommon, MI

Position Details

Job Goal: Be the ISD leader in CTE programming, bringing local, state, and national career training to the C.O.O.R. ISD districts. This includes developing high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand programming to meet the changing demands of the industry and labor market.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher. (Vocational Education and/or Educational Leadership preferred.)
  • Eligible for MDE Office of CTE approval as a Vocational Administrator and appropriate certification as a Michigan administrator.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a teacher, consultant, and/or administrator in CTE programs preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of working in collaborative partnerships with business, labor, higher education, and other agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability in administration, budget management, curriculum development, grant preparation, and school improvement activities.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Career Technical Education endorsement preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Terms of Employment: Full-time. Up to 260-day contract. Salary will be established by the Board of Education.

Reports To: ISD Superintendent

Supervises: Career & Technical Education Program Certified and Support Staff

Evaluation: Performance on this job will be evaluated annually as required by law

Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly understand all laws, rules, regulations, and policies pertinent to Career Technical Education and Early Middle College programs. Interpret such information for the Board, administration, staff, and local school districts.
  • Serve as a member in various community organizations to promote CTE and the Early Middle College and to explore future partnerships. Participate in efforts to bring closer business/ industry/ labor/ education/ government cooperation.
  • Provide leadership for the promotion, organization, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of C.O.O.R. Intermediate School District Career Technical Education and Early Middle College programs.
  • Assume responsibility for collecting, reviewing, and submitting all forms and reports relative to CTEIS and appropriate state agencies.
  • Hire, develop, supervise, and evaluate CTE and Early Middle College staff according to Board policy and state law.
  • Monitor student educational and behavioral needs and intervene to maximize learning.
  • Potentially perform CTE teaching or subbing responsibilities.
  • Establish advisory committees for all CTE programs.
  • Arrange and direct meetings for CTE staff and advisory committees.
  • Work with the Business Manager to develop and effectively manage annual budgets and grants.
  • Continue active involvement in the C.O.O.R. administrative team.
  • Maintain an active role in local, regional, and state committees and professional organizations related to Career Technical Education and Early Middle College programs.
  • Attend Workforce Development Board (WDB) meetings in both Region 7B and Northeast Michigan Consortium as applicable.
  • Maintain membership in Educational Advisory Groups (EAG) for both Region 7B and Northeast Michigan Consortium.
  • Work collaboratively with local schools, business, and industry partners, and other organizations to sustain a Career Preparation System (currently Xello) for all C.O.O.R. area schools.
  • Design and implement a public relations plan to increase community awareness of CTE/EMC programs and services.
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Education and provide information to the Board on matters associated with Career Technical Education and Early Middle College programs.
  • Assist local schools with current and future CTE programs and services.
  • Establish and maintain postsecondary agreements.
  • Research and develop supplemental funding sources for CTE and Early Middle College programming.
  • Utilize knowledge of common safety hazards and necessary safety precautions for self and others to establish a safe work environment. Applies and manages the safety standards of C.O.O.R. ISD. Uses safety principles to protect the health and safety of self, students, and co-workers.
  • Perform other tasks as the superintendent of the C.O.O.R. Intermediate School District may assign.

  • Occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Occasionally come in contact with unruly students and/or adults.
