Metropolitan Council is Hiring an Occupational Health Specialist Near Minneapolis, MN

This position will be posted until filled with the first review of applications set to begin on February 7, 2024. This posting can close at any time without notice after February 7, 2024.
The Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities has a full-time vacancy for an Occupational Health Specialist in our Regional Administration Division. This position will be located in Minneapolis and is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. Candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

Full Salary Range: $78,000 Annual - $117,728 Annual
Salary is based on qualifications, our benefits package, internal equity, and external competitiveness.

About the position:
The person in this position is responsible for monitoring employees out of work due to an illness or injury. They will serve as liaisons between physicians and the workplace. The individual in this role will assist employees with an appropriate return-to-work plan. The best-qualified candidates will have a thorough understanding of ADA, Disability Management, Workers' Compensation, FMLA, and return to work principles.
 
In addition to the required education AND experience the following is highly desired:
  • Disability Management
  • Fit for Duty
  • Workers Compensation
  • FMLA/MPLA
  • Restricted/Modified Duty
  • Review medical information and use case management principles to assist employees in the recovery process and ensure a safe and appropriate return to work
  • Schedule fitness for duty appointments as appropriate, facilitate communication between occupational health clinics and Met Council managers and/or risk management regarding employee work status, DOT certification, pre-employment and fitness-for-duty physical results
  • Facilitate consistent application of disability management across the Council
  • Responsible for restricted/modified duty assignment and monitoring of progression of restrictions to either full work or medical disqualification
  • Provide expertise regarding ADA accommodations
  • Meet with managers and OEO as appropriate to assist with determining accommodation or undue business hardship.
Must have: Current, unrestricted State of Minnesota Registered Nursing License
 
 Bachelor's degree in nursing AND four (4) years of experience: a combination of experience in occupational health, case management, and clinical nursing.
 
 OR
 
 Associate degree in nursing AND six (6) years of experience: a combination of experience in occupational health, case management, and clinical nursing.
 
 Desired Qualifications: 
  • Experience and/or knowledge with local, state and federal regulatory and legislative occupational health requirements
  • Experience and/or knowledge of FMCSA Medical Examiner's Certification (DOT Card)
  • Experience and/or knowledge of OSHA, ADA, FMLA, and Work Comp
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN or COHN-S) or Certified Case Manager (CCM)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience and/or knowledge with local, state and federal regulatory and legislative occupational health requirements
  • Experience and/or knowledge of FMCSA Medical Examiner's Certification (DOT Card)
  • Experience and/or knowledge of OSHA, ADA, FMLA, and Work Comp
