Metropolitan Airports Commission is Hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Intern Near Minneapolis, MN

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) is seeking a versatile and adaptable Environmental Health and Safety Intern to join our Risk Management team.
The intern will play a key role in supporting various initiatives related to safety and compliance, involving collaboration with internal stakeholders to assist with hazard assessments in various MAC departments.
Internship duration: May 1, 2024 – August 30, 2024.
Flexible schedule: Monday – Friday, 30-40 hours per week.

JOB DUTIES
 
With guidance from Risk Management staff, the intern’s primary duty will be to:
  • Update existing chemical inventories across the organization:
    • locating and documenting chemicals in the workplace
    • Verifying and updating existing chemical lists
    • Locating applicable safety datasheets and uploading into an online library
The intern will also assist with:
  • exposure assessments for dusts, gases, noise and heat;
  • workplace inspections and evaluations; and
  • safety training, testing and record keeping.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of at least one or more high-school or higher chemistry courses
  • Basic proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Ability to work 30-40 hours per week for the duration of the summer.
  • Ability to lift, position, and carry 25 lbs.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and a reliable vehicle to commute between work sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
  • Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree in environmental health, safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related degree program or recently graduated from one of these related fields.
