Mercer Zimmerman, the Midwest's leading sales agency representing commercial lighting and interior construction manufacturers, is looking for an experienced Payroll & Accounting Specialist to join our team. This role will be an integral part of our corporate accounting and HR department, collaborating daily with our Director of Accounting & Finance, Assistant Controller, accounting staff and employees throughout the organization. Primary responsibilities:

Payroll/Benefits

• Ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly and off-cycle payrolls for all employees in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Handle payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve any issues promptly
• Manage and set up new state tax accounts as required.
• Administer employee benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, COBRA, FMLA, and other benefits or leaves.
• Reconcile benefit vendor invoices and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist employees with benefit inquiries and help them navigate through the enrollment process.
• Provide payroll and benefit training to new hires.

Accounts Payable

• Key invoices into accounting system for payment and process payments to vendors.
• Maintain vendor records to ensure updated and accurate contact and remittance information.

Accounts Receivable

• Create invoices according to company practices; submit invoices to customers.
• Review accounts receivable past dues to ensure accuracy of reports; research the accuracy of past due payments; communicate with management and manufacturers on findings.
• Monitor and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable.

What we are looking for in a candidate:

• 3 years of experience in payroll and accounting.
• Experience with ADP (required), preferably with ADP Comprehensive Services.
• Experience with Quickbooks Online (preferred).
• Experience with SAP Concur (a plus).
