Summary of Main Duties:Manages the classroom on a day-to-day basis by providing instruction including the development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, assessment, and curriculum design as well as supervision of classroom staff and ongoing parent contact.Job Duties:•Plans and implements motivating and creative age-appropriate activities to address goals as outlined in each students’ IEP including vocational opportunities, community based learning experiences, MA curriculum frameworks, and service learning projects.•Collaborates with other teachers and therapists to implement an integrated educational/ therapeutic model.•Develops lesson plans, progress reports, and IEPs within specified timelines as directed.•When scheduled, performs MCAS alternate assessments.•Creates a learning environment where the students are stimulated and motivated to work to their best potential. •Designs and implements appropriate academic and social goals for all students.•Facilitates interactions among children that provide opportunities for emotional, social, and cognitive growth.•Collaborates with other educators and specialists in the planning, adapting, and teaching of curriculum for all learners and guides classroom staff in the implementations of goals. •Maintains data records on each student’s progress to write accurate evaluations and/or progress reports.•Demonstrates positive guidance techniques with children such as redirection, modeling appropriate behavior, and praise. •Works with content area specialists to develop and implement content specific objectives (i.e., therapy staff, nursing, Behavioral Specialist, etc.)•Supervises and assigns duties to the teacher assistant(s) so their work with the students is reflective of their individual needs or the needs of the program.
