Medicine Express is Hiring a Pharmacist - Staff Near Belleville, IL

Position Summary:

As a Pharmacist you will be responsible for assisting the pharmacy staff with supervising daily pharmacy operations. All staff and pharmacists will report to the Pharmacy Manger. The Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all of drugs dispensed as prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners, and that each order meets all regulatory requirements. You also may advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.

In this unique organization, the pharmacists are required to perform multiple roles, including providing clinical consulting to assisted living facilities in multiple states (approximately 25% of hours worked involve clinical programs including vaccine clinics and travel is required), supervision of and participation in data entry and order verification (50%) and production/final production verification operations (25%).

Essential Duties include the following:

  • Demonstrates competence in the area of regulatory compliance and ensures that the property stays in regulatory compliance with all regulatory agencies
    • Assists with and prepares for compliance audits and inspections
  • Oversees and assists with training of pharmacy support staff
  • Reads and interprets physicians’ orders received in the pharmacy and verifies accuracy of transcription by other pharmacy employees
  • Assists pharmacy staff with checking in orders, putting orders away and filing associated paperwork.
  • Continues to educate by attending drug in-services and keeping up with policy changes.
  • Reviews and interprets physicians’ orders for appropriateness relevant to other departments to ensure that overdoses or under-doses have not been prescribed and that interactions, incompatibilities or toxic compounds will not result from the combination of medications.
  • Ensures that drugs are appropriately labeled, stored and utilized according to physicians’ instructions.
  • Dispenses prescriptions to customers in accordance with company policy and in conformance with regulations and laws dealing with the class of prescription.
  • Counsels customers about their medications and maintains an accurate, up-to-date patient profile.
  • Maintains necessary controls with respect to audited controlled drugs and alcohol.
  • Supervises prepacking of drugs and control procedures.
  • Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
  • Maintains a positive and instructional interaction with assigned departments.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the profession by participating in organization memberships, by attending meetings, lectures, in-services and seminars, by reading journals, and by complying with National Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency.

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited school. Must be licensed in Illinois and Missouri and must be willing to obtain licensure in other states as needed.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a pharmacist, long term care setting preferred
  • Ethical Conduct.
  • Must be willing/able to work on site in rotating shifts which include weekends and holidays, and work during inclement weather will be required.
  • Must be willing to work without cell phone, cell phones are kept in employee lockers during shifts
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills required along with the heart and passion to work with older adults while providing the best care possible
  • Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, to be flexible, to work well with many interruptions and have skill in multi-tasking
  • Must exhibit and promote a high level of customer service, hospitality, curiosity and friendliness towards all residents, visitors, employees and the overall facility

Computer and Technological Skills:

  • Proficiency with in-office telephones, Internet browsers (e.g. Explorer, Chrome, Fire Fox), as well as Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Excel, Word and Publisher applications required

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a health care setting. This position requires frequent standing and walking to storage shelves and filling counters to fill prescriptions.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The ability to see distinctions in colors and shapes is also required. This position is moderately active and requires standing and walking for the duration of the shift, as well as the ability to lift/move objects weighing up to 50lbs.
