Description

The Medical Health Associates of WNY is looking for Medical Assistants/Patient Care Assistants to join our Team!

Positions are currently available at the following locations:

  • Alden Pediatrics
  • Suburban Pediatrics

Position: Medical Assistant (MA)/Patient Care Assistant (PCA)

Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly Employee 

Reports to: Office Manager 

JOB SUMMARY: The MA/PCA will provide high quality care to pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients in an office setting. MA/PCA’s are responsible for providing administrative and clinical support to ensure the efficient operation of the medical office. PCA’s perform functions in accordance with Medical Health Associates of WNY policy and procedure and as directed by management and/or providers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):

· Prepare patients for examination, obtain/record vitals, and record health history.

· Perform screenings, such as vision and hearing. 

· Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and/or patient samples. 

· Administer nebulizer treatment. Obtain respirations, pulse ox when applicable.

· Assist provider with medical treatments, procedures, and exams. 

· Explain medical procedures/treatment to patients (and family members).

· Process prescription requests.

· Communicate with parents/patients regarding questions, follow-up instructions or scheduling of additional testing (as directed by providers).

· Stock exam room supplies and clean/prep rooms and equipment. 

· Respond professionally and promptly to any given situation.

Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):

· Check-in patients, receive and direct phone calls, and schedule/confirm appointments.

· Ensure all forms, consents, and screenings are completed by patients and/or parents.

· Accurately fill out school, camp, and day care forms for provider. 

· Scoring of developmental tools such as the ASQ and/or MChat.

· Prepare, update, and maintain patient charts. 

· Receive and route message and documents (such as lab results) to appropriate staff. 

· Collect co-pays and balances, post charges and run reports for end of day balance. 

· Confirm insurance eligibility through online verification tools. 

· Complete record requests for transfer; transmit medical records (mail, email, fax, EMR).

· Check-out patients, assist with referral processing, and schedule next appointment. 

· Chart review for scheduling accuracy. 

· Prepare equipment and examination rooms, and clean instruments. 

· Complete laundry and assist with stocking supplies. 

Other Duties (may include, but not limited to):

· Demonstrate the primary goal of customer satisfaction through positive interactions with patients, parents, providers, colleagues, and other members of the patient care team in a respectful, courteous, confidential, and caring manner.

· Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement programs and activities within the practice setting.

· Attend and participate in required in-service and mandatory meetings for continuous quality improvements. 

· Support change and new programs to improve patient care and staff morale.

· Protect the privacy and security of confidential and sensitive patient information.

· Perform any other tasks as assigned by the manager, or as directed by a provider.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

· High school diploma or equivalent. 

- Medical Assistant certification preferred.

· Current CPR Certification.

· Prior medical assisting experience in a medical office preferred. 

· Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures preferred. 

· Basic computer literacy.

· Proficiency with medical record technology.

- MEDENT experience/knowledge preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMAND/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

· Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to walk, stand and sit for extended periods. Includes but is not limited to bending, squatting, reaching, and carrying. The employee must be able to lift, pull and bend or assist to physically restrain a combative patient.

· Employee is required to talk and hear through direct patient contact and telephone conversation. Requires close vision work with computer and keyboard entry.

· Well lit, secure, controlled temperature environment with noise level quiet to moderate.

· Tasks may involve exposure risk to blood and body fluids. Must observe guidelines to guard against disease, accidental needle sticks and exposure to instrument sterilizing chemicals.

The employee will be held accountable for the provision of patient confidentiality both within and outside the office setting. The employee will always maintain a respectful attitude towards patients and employees.
