Medical Assistant and Office Admin Job Description

Hourly Rate: $18/hr - $22/hr

Travel may be required from one location to another based on need.

Description: The medical assistant at MedCoShare is the liaison between our physicians and their patients. As a medical assistant, you will be the first point of contact for care with patients ahead of the physician. Your role and responsibilities include but are not limited to patient intake, patient vitals, exam room prep, billing, coding, patient scheduling, administering medications, and handling of hazardous materials. This is a highly coveted role due to the large amount of patient experience and exposure under the guidance of multiple practicing physicians. You will more than likely be under the supervision of multiple physicians and thus will gain tremendous expertise in multiple specialties and disease states.

The Role:

Medical Assistant

  • Assisting with patient intake and scheduling in addition to helping patients get situated in an exam room ahead of the physician
  • Assisting with taking vital signs, preparing patients for medical examinations, and assisting with medical procedures.
  • Medical assistants may be responsible for scheduling appointments, answering phones, updating medical records, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • May be responsible for coding medical procedures and diagnoses for insurance purposes and submitting claims to insurance providers.
  • Responsible for collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests, and disposing of hazardous materials.
  • Medical assistants may be responsible for administering medications and injections under the direction of a physician.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment and instruments, as well as maintaining and ordering medical supplies.
  • Responsibilities are inclusive of any sort of clinical and administrative support for physicians

Office Admin

  • Positive attitude, detail, and customer-oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability
  • Provide coverage at the front desk
  • Assume responsibilities for personal work areas and maintain areas in a presentable manner
  • Experience in a professional office setting or customer service environment, where good communication and customer relations skills are essential
  • Manage the office by tracking inventory and ordering office supplies, collateral, and other printed materials within the approved budget
  • Process invoices and maintain budget performance spreadsheets
  • Maintain and update the office schedule including events, staff schedules, and appointments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent keyboarding and proofreading skills
  • Experience/ability to manage relations between clients, patients, and MedCoShare facilities

Requirements

  • Fluency in English
  • BS in Public Health or any health professions focused degree
  • Minimum completion of high school education
  • Preferred completion/in the progress of college-level education
  • Prior healthcare-related experience/interest in pursuing a career in healthcare
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance at all times
  • Attend meetings as requested
  • A driven individual that looks to take initiative in their tasks
  • Technology Savvy (Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suites, and Social Media Platforms)
  • Open-minded and open to learning new processes
  • Willing to be flexible in work tasks as dependent on business needs
  • Prior experience in clinical medicine in a primary care setting or hospital/outpatient setting

Preferred

  • Background in healthcare, public health, and/or real estate
  • Previous client-facing experience
  • Prior experience in clinical roles
  • Prior experience as a medical assistant or nurse practitioner with patients of all age types
