Position:- APRN Advanced Practice Nurse - NEW YORK - WHITE PLAINS

Location:- WHITE PLAINS, NY, 10601

Unit Type:- Med Surg (Medical Surgical)

Duration:- 13 Weeks Full Time Contract

Charting System:- EPIC

Shift:- Days | 4*10 | 8a-630pm | Alternating weekend & holiday

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in the medical-surgical field play a pivotal role in providing specialized and comprehensive care to patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. Their responsibilities extend across clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. Below are detailed roles and responsibilities of an APRN in the medical-surgical setting:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:Conduct thorough physical exams and health histories.Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, imaging studies).Diagnose acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Treatment and Management:Develop and implement treatment plans.Prescribe medications and other treatments.Perform advanced procedures, such as suturing, wound care, and insertion of central lines.
  • Surgical Care:Assist in surgeries and perform minor surgical procedures.Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, including patient education and discharge planning.
  • Chronic Disease Management:Manage and coordinate care for patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.Educate patients and their families on disease management, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Pain Management:Assess and manage acute and chronic pain.Implement pain management protocols and monitor patients' responses to pain treatment.

Leadership and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Care Coordination:Lead multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care. Ensure continuity of care across various healthcare settings.
  • Policy Development:Develop and implement clinical protocols and guidelines to improve patient outcomes. Participate in policy-making processes at the organizational level.
  • Quality Improvement:Engage in quality improvement projects to enhance patient safety and care quality. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical practices and interventions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. Participate in accreditation processes and adhere to institutional policies.

Educational Responsibilities

  • Patient and Family Education:Provide education to patients and their families about medical conditions, treatments, and preventive care. Develop educational materials and programs tailored to patient needs.
  • Staff Training and Development: Mentor and educate nursing staff, including RNs and LPNs. Conduct in-service training sessions and continuing education programs.
  • Community Outreach:Participate in community health education initiatives. Collaborate with community organizations to promote health awareness and preventive care.

Research and Evidence-Based Practice

  • Clinical Research:Conduct and participate in clinical research studies to advance medical-surgical nursing practice. Analyze and disseminate research findings to improve patient care.
  • Evidence-Based Practice:Integrate evidence-based practices into clinical care. Stay current with the latest research and advancements in medical-surgical nursing.
  • Publication and Presentation: Publish research findings and clinical innovations in professional journals. Present at national and international conferences.

Interpersonal Responsibilities

  • Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients’ rights and access to care. Address ethical issues and dilemmas in patient care.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Emotional Support: Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families. Address concerns and questions related to medical and surgical care.
