MCS of Tampa is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Tampa, FL

MCS of Tampa is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Finance and Accounting Department as a Senior Accountant. This individual oversees all financial accounting and reporting activities. Applies business acumen and accounting expertise to ensure that a construction project's financial data conforms to U.S. generally accepted accounting procedures, or GAAP.

Primary responsibilities of a Senior Accountant is to assist the Controller with leadership, when necessary, as well as organization of the company’s financial reporting, as well as perform functions in budget management. The Senior Accountant will make sure that the accounting processes of the company adhere to what is normally acceptable with accounting principles. Responsible for the company’s accounting operations, including its production of financial reports, proper upkeep of a sufficient accounting records system, together with complete methods of control in order to lessen risks and improve on the preciseness of financial results that are reported in the company. The individual will report to the Controller.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee financial operations including AP/AR, job cost accounting, payroll and cash flow management
  • Develop and maintain the system of internal accounting controls and financial reporting
  • Budgeting, forecasting and analysis
  • Work-In-Progress reporting & General Ledger
  • Coordinate quarterly accounting reviews, annual audits and tax returns
  • Maintain state registrations, business and tax licenses, etc.
  • Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, cost accounting, Human Resources, and Operations etc.
  • Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing, etc. when necessary
  • Work closely with Controller in the development and economic evaluation of various fringe benefit programs for staff and program components
  • Provide a visionary and leadership implementation role on behalf of Finance and Human Resources to all departments, creating a well-respected and sought after department goal
  • Report to the Controller when necessary in writing and verbally

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in accounting/financial management with increasing responsibility.
  • Construction and federal contracting experience highly desired
  • Knowledge of WIP
  • Leadership and demonstrated ability to build manage and motivate a team.
  • Must lead by example with a willingness to be hands-on and roll up the sleeves when necessary. Team player with a passion and willingness to learn the industry.
  • Self-starter who is flexible, highly adaptable and able to work at a fast pace.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport across the company.
  • Customer-service oriented with a high level of integrity. Excellent communications skills: presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written.
  • Must have a command presence and the confidence to express opinions and propose new ideas. Strong planning, organizational and project management skills with ability to multi-task, and assimilate new information quickly.
  • Timberline experience desired
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality, demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Strong software skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel. Familiarity with accounting systems.
  • Understanding of information technology systems is essential.

Education

Bachelor Degree (B.S.) in accounting or finance; 5 or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Fundamental Functions

Work Environment

  • Work assignments may vary based on client requirements.
  • Work may be performed inside a large facility. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
  • Work may be performed in the field. Outside work may include various environmental conditions including hot, dusty, cold, wet, icy or windy climates.

Schedule

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory.
  • It is important to be able to work any shift/designated hours required.
  • You may be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work.
  • Position may require night and weekend work and could include travel with the military to participate in operations/exercises located in areas with varying field conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • May require climbing, working at heights and in small, confined spaces such as under raised floors, inside closets and server racks. Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel or crouch for long periods of time. Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperature than standard office environmental conditions. Lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC/laptop. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 30 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.

Equipment and Machines

  • General office equipment includes but is not limited to: PC/laptop, telephone, copier, servers, switches, routers and other computer equipment that supports the network environment.
  • General field equipment includes but is not limited to: hand tools, power tools, ladders, aerial/motorized lifts and test equipment.
  • May require operating motor vehicles.

Travel

  • Travel requirements will vary. Not all positions require travel.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required to operate company vehicles.
  • Continental and Overseas travel may be required. A current passport is required for Overseas travel.

Other Essential Functions

  • Employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required certifications or licenses through the duration of the project or contract. Failure to obtain/maintain required certifications will result in disqualification for this position and could result in termination.
  • Candidate must exhibit a professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a time sensitive environment.
  • Candidate must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with a variety of government, military and contractor personnel at all levels.
  • Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • For office environments, grooming and dress is typically business casual but is dependent on client’s standards.
  • For field environments, grooming and dress must not pose a safety hazard to yourself or employees working in the same general area.
  • The position for which you are applying for may require a US government security clearance.
