Who we are looking for:

We are actively seeking a highly skilled and results-driven senior-level estimator with a strong background in multifamily estimating to join our esteemed preconstruction team. As an integral member of our team, the selected candidate will play a crucial role in delivering accurate project estimates and winning proposals. With a minimum of 5 years' experience in the position, the ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional proficiency in conceptual, schematic, and design development budgets, as well as detailed cost estimates and quantity take-offs in close collaboration with our project management and field operations teams.

What you’ll do:

In this role, our senior estimator will work closely with the Director of Pre-construction, Executive Vice President of Construction, and Business Development teams to ensure the delivery of competitive and comprehensive project estimates. You will also be responsible for,

  • Handling multiple projects from time of RFP to bid submission; 
  • Performing and providing complete, thorough, and accurate take-offs electronically; 
  • Understanding unit pricing through various aspects of construction; 
  • Actively searching for any Value Engineering solutions that can be provided to our clients; 
  • Creating and fostering relationships with subcontractors and vendors;
  • Seeking alternative sources for subcontractors and labor to get the best possible pricing; 
  • Following up with all invited subcontractors via phone and email to ensure deadlines are met; 
  • Managing site walk-throughs and document items seen and discussed when viewing with clients; 
  • Creating scopes of work to distribute to subcontractors;
  • Inputting data into bid forms, create detailed qualifications, and assemble bid packages;
  • Managing the RFP process, ensuring maximum coverage in all trades;
  • Maintaining an internal organization, adhering to tracking of RFPs and bids; 
  • Leading and performing as necessary administrative duties on projects; 
  • Building winning unit costs for all trades to assist in future bidding; 
  • Preparing for and attending bid review meetings; 
  • Work with accounting and project managers to estimate fees, overhead, and profit; 
  • Building mutually rewarding relationships with potential clients, subcontractors, and vendors; 
  • Mentoring junior estimators in a teaching environment.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or relevant discipline, or applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct project estimating experience 
  • Excellent understanding of reading blueprints and specifications 
  • A working knowledge of the commercial construction industry 
  • Experience using a computer blueprint take off program (Plan Swift, Bluebeam or similar) 
  • Experience with an online bid solicitation tool 
  • Organized, with great attention to detail and thorough note taking 
  • Well versed in excel and all MS Office Programs, specifically Excel for tracking construction costing
  • Experience with On-Screen Takeoff and Sage estimating software programs a plus 
  • Strong and proactive communication (written, phone, and in person)
  • Ability to work well with coworkers, subcontractors, vendors, architects, and designers 
  • Team player, can take initiative, self-guide, and help lead the company’s estimating efforts
  • Experience with phased, occupied projects, additions, and tenant fit outs.
