ASSISTANT PAYROLL SPECIALIST

The Assistant Payroll Specialist will be responsible for handling all aspects of an accurate and timely payroll process for the company’s workforce. The Assistant Payroll Specialist will ensure compliance with payroll regulations and internal controls.

Job Qualifications:

Required:

  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Embodies personal integrity and keeps confidences
  • 3 years of Payroll experience
  • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities
  • Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially with Excel
  • Ability to function as an integral team member, working under time constraints and meeting deadlines in a changing environment
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred:

  • Union and multi-state payroll experience
  • CMiC experience

Office and Travel:

Works in corporate office with periodic local travel

Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle the administration of the electronic timekeeping system
  • Set up and maintain employees in payroll system
  • Review changes for proper authorization
  • Occasional preparation and processing of weekly payroll for 300 people
  • Administration and management of garnishments, tax levies, child support orders and other special payroll deductions
  • Process weekly per diem payments through payroll and/or accounts payable
  • Backup other payroll team members as needed
  • Maintain employee personnel files
  • Make payroll tax payments
  • Respond to and resolve employee payroll inquiries
  • Support training needs for supervisors on use of time keeping system
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with employees, project teams, etc.
  • View every interaction as an opportunity to add value and enhance relationships

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee’s work station and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
