Mat-Su Health Services is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team!

Summary: The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing excellent customer service by effectively managing provider schedules, ensuring communication between providers and clients, and performing various medical procedures in the primary care and behavioral medical department under the supervision and direction of providers.

Essential Duties:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Interview clients to measure vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and record information on clients' charts.
  • Review client charts to ensure records, documents, health screenings, and immunization records are available for provider review before each visit
  • Assist clients with the completion of various assessment tools
  • Prepare appropriate instruments for examination/procedure.
  • Assist in managing provider schedules by monitoring and backfilling openings as they appear, keeping providers on schedule, and maximizing provider/client time.
  • May collect and prepare laboratory specimens for courier pick-up and complete all documentation needed to process insurance.
  • Keep rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, wash and dry instruments used, and sterilize as required.
  • May schedule follow-up and referral appointments.
  • Provide client education, including prescription usage, immunization information, STD education, and lifestyle education for wellness.
  • Compliance with MSHS’ compliance standards, including the Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures.
  • Participates in mandatory Code and emergency drills.
  • Calls no-show clients to assist in rescheduling.
  • Assists in standing order refills on medication.
  • Monitor the content of the medicine closet weekly for supply and dates.

  • Work is performed primarily inside a heated, ventilated, and well-lighted environment.
  • Job is considered low-risk for hazard exposure.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and see, talk, or hear.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities this job requires include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Current Certification or three to six months related experience and training or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
  • Have general knowledge of EMR/EHR software and Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

General Requirements:

  • Clear background check (subject to DHSS background check)
  • Current driver’s license; clean driving record
  • Current tuberculosis screening test result
  • First Aid and CPR certifications must be obtained within two weeks of hire.
