Job Description:

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW & POSITION SUMMARY:

The Office of Justice, Equity, and Transformation (JET) at MassArt guides and leads the important work that achieves systemic equity in all areas of the educational institution through transformation of campus culture. The Pathways Assistant Director/Program Manager implements strategies and initiatives focused on creating opportunities for young people to pursue education and careers in art and design. The position supports two pathway programs at MassArt: Artward Bound, a four-year grant funded program that prepares Boston area high school students for acceptance to and success in higher/post-secondary education and beyond, and Compass, a four-year college mentoring program for Massachusetts residents with financial need who are first-generation to college. The Assistant Director will provide overall program management, technical, and strategic support in stewarding Artward Bound/Compass mission, program goals and activities. This position will manage all program operations and logistics in collaboration with AB Director/Compass Coordinator and other administrative staff.

REPORTS TO: Dean of Justice, Equity, and Transformation and Director of Artward Bound

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervise and support curriculum and instructional staff, including MassArt student workers

SALARY: $65,000 - $75,000 Commensurate with experience

Position is governed by the APA collective bargaining agreement and partially grant funded.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

* Manage pathway partnerships and programs, including Artward Bound and Compass; Develop and foster new opportunities to strengthen pathways for high school and undergraduate students

* Manage day-to-day program activities and goals including student registrations, program schedules, and events/exhibitions

* Support the Director of Artward Bound in semester planning for Artward Bound and other related activities for year-round programming, including updating student and staff handbooks

* In collaboration with the Director of Artward Bound, oversee curriculum development in art and academics to prepare high school students for success in college and beyond

* Track expenses, prepare invoices, process payments and reimbursements, and manage other financial transactions

* Increase the visibility of the JET Office, programs and initiatives, and community engagement

* Oversee the hiring, training, and supervision of contract instructors and MassArt student workers, including Artward Bound Mentors

PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATION STRATEGY

* Effectively advocate for pathway opportunities and college success at MassArt, especially amongst students from underserved backgrounds and who identify as first-generation college students

* Facilitate collaborations between internal and external community partners, staff, students, and faculty; Work collaboratively with a variety of areas different across the college such as academic affairs, student development, admissions, and financial aid on programs and events

* Cultivate and build relationships with Boston Public Schools and other strategic partners

* Engage in the current discourse within college access and success, positive and creative youth development, and community engagement (e.g. through scholarship, presentation, professional development)

* Manage the partnership with the MA Department of Education Dual Enrollment Program (DESE/CDEP)

DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS

* Collect and analyze detailed program and student data for registration and program evaluation; Create, manage, and evolve responsive systems for collecting data over time (internal and external)

* Create user friendly surveys, data analysis, and data visualizations to effectively measure progress and present the outcomes of Pathway programs

* Assess office programs and initiatives through focus groups, surveys, evaluations, presentations, reports, and other projects as needed

* Support the Director and Institutional Advancement staff in grant writing, reporting, and related fundraising and donor cultivation activities

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Art, Education or related field.

Experience: Three years administrative experience working with urban youth in community, education, and/or arts program settings. Two years of demonstrated experience in higher education; enacting principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) in programs, projects or initiatives.

* Skilled at working with populations from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups experiencing social inequities

* Demonstrated commitment to racial/social justice and support of BIPoC communities

* Strong administrative skills with an attention to detail and ability to implement day-to-day program logistics; Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high paced environment while remaining flexible

* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to articulate mission and goals of program

* Excellent facilitation skills, ability to provide meaningful and engaging student, staff and community workshops and professional development

* Experience advocating and connecting students to services and resources

* Experience with coalition-building and ability to work with a range of faculty, staff, and students

* Skillful in recruitment strategies based on data, as well as branding and messaging

* Knowledge of arts and academic curriculum for high school students.

* Demonstrated experience with college access and success; Ability to be knowledgeable about campus-wide resources to guide students, faculty, and staff appropriately

* Positive, constructive, and solution-oriented attitude

* Ability to engage work with authenticity, humor, and heart

* Proficiency with a full range of computer office applications and functions including Google Workspace/Suite and Zoom

* Demonstrated experience with fiscal / budgetary systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Master's Degree in Art, Education, Administration or related field preferred

* Supervisory experience

* Experience leading research, data and evaluation practices relevant to college readiness and student success

* Additional language proficiency other than English (especially Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, and/or Mandarin Chinese), a plus

* Valid Driver's License

Additional Information:

WORKING CONDITIONS

Attend meetings and program activities on campus to support students and families outside of the 9am-5pm work day. During the academic Year Artward Bound is an after school program and the work day is generally from 10:30am-6:30pm. During the summer the work day is generally from 9am-5pm. There are occasional events and meetings that run until 8pm and select Saturday events throughout the year.
