The MAICEI Program Coordinator & Success Coach coordinates, develops, delivers, and assesses MCLA's Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative (MAICEI) Program. The Program is a partnership between local school districts and MCLA to provide students with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other developmental disabilities a postsecondary education opportunity. The MAICEI Program Coordinator & Success Coach works with the campus' MAICEI planning and advisory team to plan and implement the Program and support students through coursework, career planning and employment, self-advocacy, social activities, and independent living. The MAICEI Program Coordinator & Success Coach also serves as a liaison to faculty across academic disciplines, as well as other administrative offices in order to advance and promote MAICEI initiatives across campus.
Position Responsibilities
Works with the Division of Graduate & Continuing Education and Institutional Advancement on the development of the Department of Higher Education's Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative planning and implementation grants. This includes the request for proposal, needs assessments, mid-year, and end of year reporting.
Responsible for identifying and working with local school districts to develop a partnership and enhance opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other developmental disabilities, and their families to continue their education.
Act as a key stakeholder on the MAICEI planning and advisory team that is responsible for planning program design and timeline. This team may include representation from Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, faculty, students, community agencies, workforce development providers, and local school districts.
Organize and implement the application, registration, and orientation process.
Conduct and participate in faculty, staff, and student leader trainings and technical assistance to ensure they have the skills needed to provide inclusive opportunities for this student population.
Identify and work with department chairs across academic disciplines to identify faculty and courses in which MAICEI program students can participate.
Collaborate with Student Affairs / Student Engagement to welcome participating students to social networks via campus-wide and community events.
Act as a liaison to Career Services to welcome participating students to career planning, vocational skill-building, and integrated employment opportunities.
Refer students with educational documentation to Disability Resources to determine eligibility and coordinate access to accommodations and services. Maintain specialized knowledge of various disabilities and the impact on learning.
Support and make referrals to appropriate academic resources such as TRIO students support services, Academic Advising & Support, Disability Resources and Counseling Services. Make connections to outside agencies as needed.
Provide assessment of program activities to campus and state leadership.
Foster persistence and completion by maintaining a caseload of success coaching for students, MAICEI students, and students registered with Disability Resources.
Conduct success coaching sessions and routine check-ins via phone, web meeting and in-person with students and families. This includes conducting initial intake and assessment of learning. Administer and interpret the Learning and Study Skills Assessment (LASSI).
Monitor the progress of students in caseload with routine check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication related to academic and other concerns, and responding to student questions, concerns, and needs.
Participate in professional opportunities that provide awareness of best practices as related to student retention and success, including but not limited to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice work.
Ability to work a flexible schedule is required. Evenings and weekends may be necessary at times.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years or more of experience in a similar capacity. Master's Degree preferred.
Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities in an educational setting.
Proven strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives.
Solid experience in people management, community development, and training and coordinating large staff teams.
Additional Information:
This is a grant-funded, temporary full-time 9-month position through June 30, 2024. This position is in the APA bargaining unit with a salary of $45,000. Continuation beyond the first year is grant dependent.
