Marywood University is Hiring a Human Resources Payroll Analyst Near Scranton, PA

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Analyst is responsible for all aspects of processing the bi-weekly and semi-monthly pay cycles for the University, including data entry, time processing, contract and non-contract payment requests, balancing, reconciliation, and reporting. Maintains accurate records and balances and reports to federal, state, local and auditing agencies as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administers all phases of Payroll and related record keeping
  • Prepares and files tax payments on a bi-weekly and semi-monthly basis for payroll taxes
  • Prepares and files quarterly tax returns for federal, state, and local agencies
  • Initiates the electronic funds transfer for the payment of employer withholding taxes, and for state withholding taxes in a timely manner to avoid penalty fees
  • Maintains accurate records for the processing of quarterly tax reports for federal, state, and local agencies and year-end preparation of the same. Also keeps and maintains accurate records for the year-end reporting and preparation for printing and distribution of W-2’s.
  • Prepares and maintains payroll deductions (flex, retirement, wage garnishments, United Way, Christmas and Vacation Clubs)
  • Calculates and withholds taxes for taxable tuition benefits each semester for graduate tuition for employee's spouse, and for employees when they exceed the federal cap (currently $5,250) in a calendar year
  • Prepares journal entries for faculty, staff and religious personnel for the fiscal year end (carry over vacation, excess sick time, faculty salary and benefits, and miscellaneous wages)
  • Completes payroll reconciliations for each bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll that is generated
  • Administers payroll and maintains procedures in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable wage and hour laws
  • Reports health savings contributions bi-weekly and semi-monthly
  • Closes quarters, fiscal year, and calendar year
  • Maintains Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), including Colleague and TimeClock Plus

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (knowledge, skill, abilities):

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Confidentiality and discretion
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as problem-solving ability
  • HR knowledge and ability to handle diverse tasks and priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as HR information systems
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Three to five years of prior work experience in payroll administration
  • Strong technology skills with capability in email, MS Office, and related HR software

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree accounting, business, or a related field
  • Work experience in higher education is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (bending/sitting/lifting/driving/etc.):

  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 10-15 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Office setting with minimal, infrequent travel required

WORK SCHEDULE:

M-F 8:30am-4:30pm, 35 hours/week, 52 weeks/year
