JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the ECE Associate or Fully Qualified Teacher and ECE Administrator, Teacher’s Aides (TAs) are responsible for providing support to create a warm, caring, calm, orderly, safe and healthy early learning environment in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Early Education program. TAs are assigned to work under the direct supervision of a Teacher in a classroom with children birth through 12 years. TAs are required to provide support to the classroom teacher, completing tasks as assigned so that children receive high quality care, supervision and educational experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and energetic commitment and serve as a role model in carrying out the Mission.
  • Promote and support the attitudes, behaviors, knowledge and skills necessary to work respectfully and effectively with each other as well as demonstrate the ability to address the needs of the children and families Maryvale serves.
  • Follow the Trauma Informed Care philosophy when supporting and addressing the needs of the children and families Maryvale serves.
  • Utilize Trauma Informed Care approach in recognizing the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledge the role that trauma has played in the lives of the clients/residents.
  • Assist in the healing process by developing appropriate RICH® (Respect, Information, Connection and Hope) relationships with those served.
  • Follow Universal Precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids.
  • Follow Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) regulations pertaining to safety and the use of equipment/machinery.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Actively participate in training to learn about child development, age appropriate activities, health and safety.
  • Provides ideas for engaging activities that create a safe, engaging, and positive early learning environment to meet the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child.
  • Support the teacher by completing classroom tasks including but not limited to: prepping activities for the children, cleaning up after activities, diaper changing/bathroom help, nap time supervision, reading and singing with children, leading large group activities in the classroom and on the play yard.
  • Provide virtual learning opportunities daily through various methods to maintain the developmental progress of currently enrolled children. These methods should include but are not limited to: email, online learning platforms, and video. Maryvale will post videos online via social media platforms managed by the agency and via the agency website. Maryvale owns and maintains all rights for educational content created for the purposes of educating children and families or advertising our Early Education Programs. Content may continue to be posted after an Associate ends their employment with Maryvale.
  • Ensure that children assigned to his/her care are visually supervised at all times, in accordance with Maryvale policy and procedure and Title 22 regulations.
  • Ensure that health and safety standards and procedures are effectively executed including but not limited to: daily sanitation, diaper changing, record keeping/daily reports, safe sleep, safety checklists, adherence to allergy lists and food program documentation at point of service.
  • Communicate with families in accordance with the Maryvale communication policy including but not limited to face to face, via email, video conference and telephone to monitor, inform and support families.
  • Complete 21 hours of professional development annually. Upload said professional development into the Workforce Registry as trainings/coursework are completed.
  • Attend and actively contribute to: in-services training, staff meetings, discussion groups.
  • Maintain regular records on children e.g. daily reports home, anecdotals, behavior logs. Contribute information towards the completion of DRDPs with the support of the classroom teacher.
  • Communicate immediately with supervisor and/or Director regarding concerns or questions.
  • Communicate with the appropriate EEC Administrator and/or VP of ECE immediately regarding any issues regarding program or child safety – Maryvale teachers aides are mandated reporters.
  • Be open to the day-to-day supervision, mentorship and training that he/she receives from Teacher’s as assigned to the classroom.
  • Work in cooperation with fellow Associates to strive for team cohesiveness.
  • Exhibit compassionate service, utilizing patience and empathy.
  • Maintain confidentiality including but not limited to sharing with parents/guardians any personal information regarding children other than their own.
  • Use common sense and good judgement to act in accordance with Maryvale policy and procedure. Problem solve and make sound judgments in all areas affecting the care and supervision of the children entrusted to the care of the program. When in doubt, ask for support from the teacher or administrative team.
  • When necessary, call for assistance and respond to emergency situations accordingly. In an emergency staff are to remain on campus until all children have left the premises OR they have been specifically authorized by the Center Director or VP of ECE to leave the premises.
  • TAs working within the School Age program may be required to transport children to and from school and off site field trips. TAs will receive training on related transportation procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Graduate.
  • Current Immunizations.
  • Active Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Minimum of 6 units Child Development courses required or 3 units completed and 3 units currently enrolled.
  • In order to apply to promote to a Fully Qualified Teacher position, when available, a Teacher’s Aide must obtain: 12 Child Development/ECE semester units including the Core Courses (Child Development, AND Child, Family, Community AND Curriculum) and Infant/Toddlers AND 6 months experience.
  • In order to apply to promote to an Associate Teacher position, a Teacher’s Aide must have a current permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing at the Associate Teacher level or higher AND apply for an Associate Teacher position when available.

  • The Associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Associate may occasionally be required to drive a motor vehicle.

Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance - Premiums for Associates are covered 100% by the agency. Maryvale offers HMO medical, DHMO dental and a vision plan for full-time Associates. Maryvale pays for 50% of dependent coverage if Associates wish to add dependents to the insurance plans. PPO medical and dental plans are available upon request for additional cost.

Holiday Pay - Maryvale recognizes 10 full-day paid holidays, and 1 Holiday of Choice each calendar year (Regular part-time employees receive pro-rated time).

Vacation - Maryvale recognizes the value of rest and relaxation and encourages Associates to take time off with their families. Regular full-time Associates accrue paid vacation leave according to the following schedule:

  • 1 to 3 years of service - 10 working days per year
  • 4 to 7 years of service - 15 working days per year
  • 8 years or more of service - 20 working days per year

Sick Time - Associates accrue sick time at 1 hour for each 28.9 hours of work.

Life Insurance - Maryvale pays for a basic Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance Policy that pays beneficiaries a flat $25,000 death benefit.

401(k) Pension Plan - Associates are eligible to enroll in the 401(k) Retirement Plan on the first day of the month after their hire date.

  • Match of Employee Contributions: After completing one year of service, Maryvale will match 100% of an Associate’s salary deferral up to a maximum of the first 3% (1%-3%). In addition, Maryvale will match 66% of an Associate’s salary deferral up to a maximum of the next 3% (3%-6%).
  • Non-Elective Contribution: After an Associate completes one full year of service, Maryvale on the Associate’s behalf, will begin making a fixed non-elective contribution equal to 3% of the Associate’s income. This contribution is separate from the matching contribution and vests over a 5 year period.

Long Term Disability Insurance - Maryvale offers Long Term Disability Insurance to all benefits-eligible Associates at no cost to the Associate. Maryvale pays the full premium for these benefits which provide salary protection in the event an Associate becomes disabled for an extended period of time.
